Just won a bid on a new T-Mo 64GB LG V10 on eBay... and ordered the sim from Ting.

I can't believe I finally decided between the LG and the Nexus 6P. Tough, close decision, but I liked the notion of having the DAC for higher quality music listening on the LG. Got the V10 for @ $475. Satisfied.

I hope everything will be fine when I get it Wed/Thurs.

Sweet! Don't forget to get that app I linked earlier. Turns on the DAC for most audio/video players. I don't even use my Creative external dac/amp anymore for the car!

I'm quite new to the smartphone scene. (I'm on my desktop Windows PC most of the time)

What earbuds should I get (under $100.) for music? And suggestions on where to get FLAC music files? I already have quite a few MP3 files on my PC encoded at 320 bps that I can export to the LG, correct?

I don't think I want to pay @ $10/month for music streaming service... but I could be talked into it, possibly.

I've been reading the 'best Android apps' thread.... interesting.

Under $100? The safe answer is to go for the best Sony in-ear headphones you can get. Do check that any in-line remotes and mics work with Android, though. Occasionally, you'll run into controls that are iOS-only.

Yes, you can copy or otherwise access your existing tunes from the phone. The most direct way is to simply copy them over, but it may be easier to use a syncing app like DoubleTwist. You could also upload your music to Google Play Music and stream/download it from there, although that'd take a while.

FLAC? Tidal sells them (it also has a subscription service). There are other stores, too, but it's probably the go-to option for lossless.

Me, I'm subscribed to streaming music because I'm a dance music fan, and that means there are loads of singles, EPs and other fresh cuts that I'd otherwise have to pay for and keep on my phone. Maybe if I get a phone with 128GB of storage...

Hard to recommend earbuds as they are sooooo subjective. I own dozens, many sworn as excellent by people and reviews, that just plain suck. IMO, I find several of Sennheisers CX series to be rather good.

Thx for ideas...

My son and I have a 'PC360' Sennheiser headset we use for PC gaming when the wife is home... quite good. If she's not home, we use the M-Audio AV40 speakers and crank up the volume in Battlefield 4. ( she HATES BF4...)

I'm getting the LG V10 tomm (Tuesday), picking it up at USPS... didn't want it left on front doorstep... One day delivery from NH to RI.

But I won't have the Ting SIM card until Thursday I think, DANG IT...will have phone but can't play w/ it... sheesh. Like when you were a kid (as opposed to now not being a kid, ha...) at XMas with gifts under the tree you couldn't touch 'til the magic day.

You can connect to wifi and play with it. You dont need a sim to use this phone. Hell, I didnt put in a sim for a few days when I got mine.

I'd go with something closer to $100 if possible, especially if you're going to listen to FLAC! Not that money guarantees better headphones, but you do tend to get most of what you pay for.

I agree w/ Oyeve, it's very hard to recommend headphones. To be honest a lot of the expensive headphones I find to be overly tinny and lacking decent bass response. Since everyone's ears are different (and have different levels of hearing loss) it's very hard to recommend one over the other. For that reason I really don't recommend spending over $50 on headphones until you know the kind of sound signature you're after. I've had a lot of regret buying nice IEMs (several Shure models, Phonak, etc) just to find they aren't right for me, even though a lot of people like them and they were quite expensive.

You can find plenty of good stuff in the $30-50 price range, and some gems even cheaper. That's where I recommend people stay until they know what they want, and then they can look at reviews to see which high end headphones will fit their style. Disappointed in $30 earphones is a lot easier to swallow than disappointment in $100 earphones.

That's mainly because the more expensive headphones are generally engineered with a more accurate sound signature for studio mixing reasons. Lots of bass can really mess with the higher end notes in certain situations.

Though this isn't always the case and you can certainly find some expensive headphones with a good low end (Audeze LCD-XC being an example).

Earbuds however are even more difficult to find anything decent without going for custom fit models.

There are a few relatively safe bets. Sony is generally good at making earbuds in the $50-100 range. Etymotic offers something close to that, I believe. And I actually think Apple's in-ear headphones are pretty solid for the money, with good bass yet very reasonable balance... not that there's much point to getting them with an LG V10.

I do agree that you have to be careful shopping for the higher-end in-ears, especially if they're significantly above $!00. A lot of people forget that truly accurate and balanced sound may actually be worse in practice, because it brings out the quirks of heavily compressed audio or music genres that favor an imbalanced sound (electronic, hip-hop, rap and the like).

The Korean release of the V10 included exceptional earbuds. US did get them. But, i'd rather have the 200gb sd card and extra battery. That was a pretty sweet deal. Use the 200gb in my tablet as I already put my 128gb into the V10.

Initial impressions...

The size of the phone is not a problem for me. However, it is slippery with the metal side rails, even with the somewhat dimpled, rubbery back side of the phone.

I had the V10 connected to my desktop for a while last night and it grabbed all my phone/email contacts from my PC email program... didn't want that to happen without asking, as I had already entered the ones I wanted (not all).

The camera is quite sophisticated... will take a while to learn this. I'm looking forward to using the DAC capability of the LG to listen to some quality music... sweet.

Settings... Under 'Sound & Notifications'/Advanced', the area for activating the DAC is grayed out... HMM... can't turn it on...thinking maybe once the music app is being used it automatically activates the DAC.

I DL'd some apps...
Waze, DAC Fix, Pixlr, KeyRing, TapaTalk, Glympse, Tasker, Castro, Shazam, Skiing, Bitmoji, Battery Doctor, Drippler, Flipp, ShellShock Detector, Norton Snap, App Lock, WwFriends, AcuWeather, Flashlight, VLC, etc...

First smart phone... so this is going to take a while to learn.... YIKES.

Get rid of all the maintenance and security apps for now. Maintenance apps are unnecessary, and security apps too for the most part outside of stuff like Android Device Manager from Google. You don't really need them. You also don't need a flashlight app. The OS has it baked it.
