I'm trying to sign up for an account there but have not receieved an activation e-mail, I changed my e-mail and tried to request a new activation be sent but it told me that I already had an account registered there but I can't do anything with the account since it's not activated yet. I opened a help ticket there but no luck so far, is there anyway somebody can get me an admin's e-mail or any link/e-mail that would help me resolve this? I used the site to buy some space from a webhost and the host screwed me over so I want to post a review to let them know what kind of stuff this kid is trying to pull. Thanks in advanced for any help.

Where did you open the help ticket and how long ago? I would give them at least 24 hours to look into and reply.

AgaBoogaBoo (Ankit) is a WHT Community Guide perhaps he can look into it?

1) Did you check your spam filters/folders?
2) When did you open the ticket? There's a pretty sizeable team working on those, shouldn't take long before you get a reply.
3) If you checked your spam folders and know it isn't blocked, and it's been over 48 hours without a reply, drop me a PM and I'll talk to someone about it directly.

I got through with them, it took 3 tries but the 3rd e-mail made it somehow. I was able to activate my account and post a review for the site in question (devioushosting.com). I guess I'll have to find a reputable host and make my wallet cry now.

Which plan did you have and what specs (disk/bandwidth/price)?

It was a special reseller plan that they offered on WHT. 10GB Space, 100GB Bandwidth, unlimited domains, cPanel/WHM, free nameservers, free domain, ~$6/m

I paid Paypal, tried to dispute, Paypal closed the dispute for some reason, doing a chargeback on my credit card which will take 2-3 weeks.

Have you ever heard of the saying, "You get what you pay for?". As you have learned the hard way it's absolutely true

They're clearly overselling and apparently their tech support consists of ONE PERSON in another country.

Check your PM's

Of that space you bought, how much do you actually use?

I quote that same phrase a lot myself, you get what you pay for. You do NOT need to spend a lot, just need to pick a proper plan in 99% of cases. I know tons of people that will be lured in by a 10GB plan, even if they only need 5-10MB of space. What's the point? For the same price, pick a smaller plan with another provider.

I don't want to be apprehensive, but you skipped the question. If you want to try it again, I'd recommend starting out small and upgrading the plan as you needed more.

You still haven't answered AgaBoogaBoo's question

Of the 10GB/100GB how much did you actually use?

Ask yourself and your potential clients, how much are reliability, uptime and good support worth? If you can afford an extra $4/mo, I would recommend KnownHost.com which offers a cPanel resellers account with 4GB/50GB for $10 with true 24/7/365 support, reliability and excellent uptime. Last time I checked they have at least 8 tech support technicians.

Well I actually used less than 1MB of it because my site was only accessable for a few hours the other day. As for how much I plan on using I don't know, I've never tried to be a reseller before, ideally using all of it would be in my best interests. I currently have a shared host for all of my current sites and would like to transfer them over to my reseller account once my contract is up. I am willing to look at any and all options but would prefer to start with something decent though.

RossMAN is so right.

You do really get what you pay for. And in my experience, you get more than you pay for with KnownHost.

My Story:

I "donate" hosting to military families who often move and want to stay in touch with their families. I had this hosting separated in to two different reseller accounts. One, I paid for which also hosted my personal sites (we are military too), the other was donated by a generous wehosting company. Unfortuneately, the hosting company that was giving me the free space decided to stop offering their DirectAdmin solutions. So, I started looking for a reseller account that handle all of the sites I hosted. My number one choice was the company that I had some of the sites hosted with already. However, the cost of adding the space that I needed just didn't seem economical.

Ross mentioned that for the price, I should try a VPS. He knew of a company that was offering very reasonable prices. I checked out KnownHost, on a trial period and I've never looked back. I really can't believe the price, service, and support that I have gotten from a semi-managed VPS.

I went with the VPS Mtx plan. I have a lot of space used up for my accounts, but there isn't a lot of demand for them as far as bandwidth goes, so it seemed to fit me. I added the DirectAdmin control panel since that is what I was familiar with. You really can't beat the price. The reseller account that I was looking at with about the same amount of space (a little less) was actually more money.

My impression so far?

Speed...
Dallas servers are some of the fastest that I have ever been on. I'm currently living in Texas, so I thought that might be it. Well... I had some of my family in the midwest and some people in Germany do some download tests and I was very happy with the results.

My Results (in Texas):
Current Server: 3:07 min about 300KB/sec
New Server: 1:19 min about 640KB/sec

My Brother's Results (in Kentucky)
3:41 min 295 kbps old
1:45 min 456 kbps new

These were download tests done using an identical 50MB file from each server. You can see a significant increase in speed. I've continued to get very good speed from my VPS with KnownHost.

Uptime...
What can I say... my site hasn't been down at all in about the few months that I have been with KH. There were a couple times when things went down for upgrades, but that was VERY well documented. When the upgraded the software on every server, they kept us updated daily on the schedule. Servers were moved around so that there was no downtime. With all of that, they stayed right on their proposed schedule that was released weeks before the upgrade. You can see details here:

http://forums.knownhost.com/showthread.php?t=488

Service/Support...
As if the upgrade isn't enough to convince someone of the service, let me add the following. Since it is "semi" managed, I've tried to figure a lot of stuff out on my own. There was one thing I wanted added that involved some things I wasn't comfortable with yet. It had to do with a workaround for port 2222 which DA uses and is often blocked. It wasn't something that KH had done, but I provided them a link, and the ticket went from open to closed in a matter of minutes, with everything up and running.

But even all of this is not what hooked me. In December, while going through the mail, I got a very nice christmas card from the staff at KH. They had taken the time to hand write a message inside. I was floored. I've been working with hosts of some type or another for several years now. This was the first time that I really felt like they cared about the customer. Some times it is the little things.

I have seen my share of good and bad hosts. I was really sad to leave my last host and a reseller account that had been excellent. However, some times you just have to move on.

I would say that for the cost, you can not find a better provider than KnownHost. I hope to be with them for some time to come.
