I been using the note 4 for a couple of months now and I switched back to the S4. Man does it feel REALLY small compared to the note 4. I used to think that the s4 was kind of big back then before I used the note 4.

Anyways, what's weird is that when I see people using the Iphone 6 and the S6, I feel like their phone is bigger than mine. Even though the S4 is approx. the same size compared to them.

Yeah, when I got my Note 4 I was using an S4. Gave the S4 to my son and every time I use it it feels so tiny. And at work I have a lot of iphone users, mostly 5s, and that phone is so tiny. I can never go back to sub 5.7" screens again.

My daughter has a LG Stylo I was playing with over the weekend, and it made me appreciate my S5 more. AFAIC, ~5" is the perfect size. I could see going to 5.3" or so, but I wouldn't go any bigger.

I'm still not convinced. I've said for years that I'm not thrilled with this whole size creep of screens - and people said that I'd change my tune at some point and that hasn't happened (yet). I have an iPhone 6 and I've never loved the screen size - or more accurately, the size of the whole phone. I take my phone with me when I go running and it doesn't fit in my running shorts so now I wear a waist pack to hold it. Plus when I roll out and run 16 miles (like I'm planning on tomorrow), I don't want to haul any more weight than I need.

You could say "dude, leave the phone at home" but one in the last year I needed the phone to call emergency services for another person (woman crashed her bike, found her comatose in a pool of blood) and plus I'm running for >3 hours and want to be available if my wife calls for something. Plus joggers are always the ones that find the dead bodies and so when my day comes, I want to be ready for it.

I know that I'm not in a common category with this whole running thing, but I know that I'm not alone in my general love for smaller phones... although I am probably in the minority on this forum. To be honest I really wish I had never sold my iPhone 5... I like the camera on the iPhone 6 and I needed a new phone because I switched carriers to T-Mobile... but I should have gotten another 5.

I had the same thing after getting a nexus 6. I pulled my nexus 5 out of the drawer it's been in to futz with something and it feels tiny now.

Yep, I can't use little phones anymore. Go big or go home. My wife's 5S feels like a toy the rare time I need to use it.

I have a couple phablets and love them. And my next phone will almost certainly be a phablet too. But once in a while I get out my Nexus 5 and start playing with it and a part of my also misses the comfort and convenience of a smaller phone. It's so much easier to use one handed, it's much more comfortable in the pocket when I'm out running or biking, and I feel much less likely to drop it.

But despite that, I really love the bigger screens on phablets, it's easier to read and interact with (two handed). But I think the Nexus 6 might be a bit too big. So I'll probably stick to 5.5 to 5.7 inch phones.

for one, running makes you look like a cancer victim survivor, stop running-- just look at the photos of marathoners. and if you must do extensive cardio, keep it to biking or swimming (better on joints)

if you've ever participated in, or watched, the runners in a 5k, they basically all look like this. absolutely disgusting

I probably just need to go straight to 5.7" next time. 6" is definitely too big, but 5.7" with thin bezels seems like a sweet spot. I'm at 5.2" on my G2 and looking at the Asus Zenphone 2 but the bezels are too thick compared to what was promised, and it's only 5.5", just like the G3.

it's really funny, if we had all just gone straight for the Galaxy Note 2 in 2012 (Quad core A9 @ 1.6ghz, huge battery, microSD, 2GB RAM) or Note 3 we'd have saved ourselves a lot of upgrade trouble and still be rocking awesome phones

I'd like to see a study done on phone size comfort compared with height/hand size.

I even feel like 5.2" is sub optimal-- it's larger than my Nexus 5, but the utility of shoving in pocket is definitely reduced.
And the Nexus 5 is sub optimal-- it's smaller than my G2, but the utility of having to interface through a smaller screen for texting is definitely sub optimal.

Thanks, Tux. I'll keep in mind that I look like a cancer survivor. My wife says I look great, but I'll make sure to tell her that someone on the internet who has never seen me says that I look like I just got off of chemo and that I need a new sport. And most of the 5k people that I have seen all look a bit heavy-set except the guys who are in it to win. It's once you get to a half-marathon that everyone looks like they need to eat a cookie. And the best thing that I ever did for my joints was to start running.

Yeah, 5k is easy. What is it, *almost* but not quite 3 miles? As long as you're even somewhat active you should be able to finish.

I was a runner once. Had a GF who was into it. I did it for the sex. Once she turned vegan I dumped her and stopped running.

you probably haven't been running very long (keep it up for 10 years and it'll look like it's been 20), your wife doesn't know what 'good' looks like, or she's saying that because she's happy it's aging you faster. If she's being genuine, revert to options 1 or 2.

You should keep it to sprints/suicides and HIIT. That's what the models being shot in activewear while running do to maintain fitness. They do not actually 'go running'

third suggested result in google when you type 'why do marathon'

I don't consider anyone running slower than 9 minute miles to be 'finishing' it, as you're basically just walking fast, but you really need to be at 8mm for it to be 'worth the effort' in my book.

you can also improve your running significantly just by doing sprints/suicides. Doesn't work the other way around...

do you have any further comments? have I impacted your understanding in any meaningful way? Do you think I have a good point? Have you encountered information I haven't which would sway my opinion?

I temporarily went back to a 4.3" Moto E early this year. It felt like some kind of toy because it was so tiny. I remember when the S2 came out and people were complaining that it was too big at 4.3"...

For me now, 5.5" without on-screen buttons or larger with them is the minimum.

I've been using the 6.4" behemoth Sony Xperia Z Ultra for a year now. I'm ready to go smaller again. I ordered the LG G Flex 2 for $250 brand new off eBay. It's got a 5.5" screen. I'm hoping for a 5.5-5.7" Nexus phone in the near future.

One thing is certain. These bezels need to go. Manufacturers need to start cramming 5.5-6.0" screens into smaller bodies. I think 5.7" with no bezels is the way to go.

If someone wants a monster 6.4" Z Ultra, mine will be for sale soon

To be fair, a lot of those older phones were bigger overall, since the technology wasn't there to keep the footprint slim. Remember how the original Galaxy Note was 'just' 5.3 inches across, but it felt huge when it was new? I checked... a 5.7-inch Note 5 is actually smaller in most dimensions. Steve Jobs was partly correct when he argued that people wouldn't buy "Hummer" phones in January 2010, then. He misjudged the ultimate allure of big screens, but he was right in that your options then were pretty bad. Dell Streak? No thanks, not even in 2010.

Note 4 still feels a little too big and mostly heavy. I love it for watching netflix before I got to sleep. Wife like to borrow it for the camera when we go places but on hikes and stuff she takes a pic and gives it back to me to carry because it's just cumbersome.

Running, hiking or doing exercise with it sloshing in my pocket is bit much. Still think my LG G2 was a great size but I gave it to my mom and haven't used it lately.
