One of my favorite things was seeing some LED bulbs that boasted "50,000 hours!!!" on the case, but only had a 2 year warranty.wow.
I hope their claims are factual.
2 years = 17520 hours.:hmm:
"50,000 hours? Nope, our warranty department doesn't believe it either."
Check the warranty to see how confident they are in those figures. And I think that 100,000 hours figure is the "50% brightness" rating, meaning once you get to that time, your house is going to be mighty dim.wow.
I hope their claims are factual.
And there's this PDF, from the DoE.
At least for screw-in replacements, the claims for brightness seem to be overinflated quite often. Yeah, wow, it uses much less power than a regular 40W incandescent. Oh, it also puts out about as much light as a 25W bulb.
Amazing.
That said, there are some damn bright discrete LEDs out there. The Luxeon Rebel LEDs are damn bright, and Cree has their XLamp series, the latter of which I have not seen myself, but the specs sound decent, and they're rated with a "L70 lifetime up to 50,000 hours", which I would guess to mean 70% brightness.
The CRI ratings usually aren't stellar, but are in line with standard-grade CFLs, usually in the area of 75.
