Anyone know cisco routers?

I have gotten a used Cisco 2610 from a friend that used to work at Fuji.
The router came with a tag that had the password on it but it reused to work. I have dabbled in Cisco about 6 years ago (2500 series) and tried to reset the password using the cnrtl /break method. It didnt work.
I went here and tried to it that way but it didnt seem to work either.

I am running
System Bootstrap, Version 11.3(2)XA4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-I-M), Version 12.2(7), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

fujinyc con0 is now available

Is all it shows. back in the days i remember typing enable before having to enter the password. This takes me directly to User Access Verification and then asks for the password.
I have gone through the directions, changed the password and changed saved the config (or so i think) and after i reload its just goes through the loop of bad passwords. Any and all help is welcomed.

If you follow those procedures you will reset the password.

Are you able to get to ROM Monitor? Prompt will be rommon>

You have to perform a break sequence when the router boots up. Look at step 5 for break key sequences depending on the terminal program you are using. ctrl break normally works.

yes, i can get all the way though the directons, reset the password and save the config. Once i try typeing in the password that i thought i changed - i doesnt work.

Maybe you mistyped.

Maybe the running config has AAA configured and is locking you out. Just erase the nvram after you bypass the passwords.

If so it would ask for a username and password. Not a simple password.

I would still just erase the startup config, not like he needs the current config

True. If the config isn't needed just use the commaned "write erase" to clear the config.

The may be a separate password configured on con0 that needs to be changed.

But I agree, you don't need the current config - kill it off and start from scratch.

Obviously you've never misconfigured AAA.

If you have the con0 or vty's set wrong, its possible to just get a password prompt and it STILL won't work (read the line password). Its a pretty neat trick if you want to be mean/screw over someone...

If you have the con0 or vty's set wrong, its possible to just get a password prompt and it STILL won't work (read the line password). Its a pretty neat trick if you want to be mean/screw over someone...

HAH!

I haven't misconfigured AAA wrong since the first few dozen times of configuring it wrong.


Now I always put a method list on con0 to use local authentication and have a backdoor. You'll never be locked out again. Or just have it use "line" instead.
