Anyone looked at Ebay Recently?

9700 Pro are around the $200 mark! Agreed I dont like online auctions and many people dont however $200 for a 9700 Pro is hard to beat.

Maybe those are 9700 non pro flashed to pro bios

We just had a post about somebody getting a 9800np flashed to pro, and advertised as a pro. Even a 9700np for $200 isn't that bad though.

lol, I was curious so I searched on ebay. I just saw a used 9700np go for $187.50 + $10 shipping, and pretty much all the 9700 pros seem to be over $250. I don't know where you're getting these 9700 pros for $200...

That is my philosophy too. OK, I'm not a hardcore 3D gamer, but I do play 3D games and want them to be satisfying. I'm trying to keep my upgrade costs modest, as you can see from my sig. If I stay behind the hard ware curve, I can have a decent system for minimal cost. I've just ordered a 4200 to hold me over for another year. Next thing is to move up to a DDR based Athlon system very soon.

I bought a built by ati 9700 pro for $225 from the fs/t forums a couple weeks back

There were other cards for similar price too (tyan 9700 pro - i saw it after i finalized the deal)

I think he did specify it. Besides, it kind of goes without saying that an auction with 4 days left is going to go for considerably more.

you can't just say "don't buy from ebay" that is not very wise. The customer should really research the seller before he buys something like this. Things to do before buying from ebay:

1) Make sure he is a power seller or something higher. Thos are usually dealers that make living out of this.
2) Make sure that seller sold computer stuff before.
3) Check his feedback. Make sure that the good feedback are coming from people who bought computer parts.
4) Email/Call the seller. Ask just about anything, even if you don't really have any questions.
5) Make sure that you receive a pleasent professional reply. Check the shipment methods, the more there is offered the better the seller is.
*Don't expect the seller to reply to you after you buy from him if he doesn't reply to your question.
6) Ebay would protect from a fraud. Check their website.
7) Ebay can help you return the product if the shipment was not as described. YOU REALLY SHOULDN'T BE AT THIS POINT.

EBay is sex with Madonna, you never know what you're goimg to get. Pricing for cards from the power sellers are comparable to NewEgg and such, even more expensive when I last looked (ca 4-5 months ago). I'd rather spend an extra 5-10% to get from a trusted store, but there are some great deals on other computer parts. SCSI drives and accessories, for example. But I don't trust EBay's rating system enough to spend any real cash there. Seems shaky, and that was my experience there even with people with > 2000 feedback. I prefer a more secure transaction, I limit the companies I buy from to a couple with good feed back and history with me as a buyer.

i just don't like it when people quote prices from ebay when the auction isn't even finished. plus i don't think there aren't as many good deals there as people make it out to be.

You can get a Radeon 9700 Pro for around $250 on ebay or $300 Retail, your choice.

9700pro's been going at futuremark forums for $200 for 5 months already!!

i got a 9700pro 2 months ago from there for $200....

Ebay is ok for some things. I've gotten some pretty good deals on video games and other misc. stuff. But a lot of the time it's really a gamble. Sometimes you get the wrong stuff shipped to you or the item isn't as described. And sure this can sometimes happen with a retailer, but it's less likely and usually easier to get the problem fixed. Plus it's a real pain to get the error fixed and often isn't really worth it when the item didn't cost that much anyways.

I recall when I was looking for a video card the ones on ebay were about the same (or in some cases more) than retail places. In addition the shipping on many of these were outrages, sometimes $15 or $20 to ship a 3 pound item. Also, you're not going to get a receipt from an ebay item, which you might need if your video card dies on you and you try to get the manufacturer to replace it. I guess it depends how much of a deal you can get and how much you're really willing to risk.
