This is a good idea and I happen to have a 30G available. Never played with these so a dumb question. How do you hook them up to the MB and get them power? Need a special cable ? Hook to standard IDE I suppose. Might be evident if I just look at the drive but its packed away so any answers would help.
Thanks

Nice to see the Antec CSR here!

EDIT: UPS just delivered it.

The reason I'm going to use them is they easily put the quietest of 3.5" desktop drives to shame in so far as noise. In fact they are sielnt ( sub 10 dBA) at more than 12" away. They last longer and use about 1/10th the power too.

Anyway how you hook them with an adaptor like this http://directron.com/nbadapter.html

Kewl! Thanks again.

Done business with both those sites and like ZZF better.

Shipping will probably cost more than the adapter.

Careful of the edges on the back of this case. Sliced my thumb pretty badly. Not as bad as most, just one spot.

Dont have all the components yet but so far just looks like a project for tiny hands.

Sorry for the late feedback. First of all, my wife and I really like the case. The blue lights are a little cheesy, but it's very quiet.

I used Thermalright ALX-800 heatsink w/ a 80mm Panaflo fan, and it was a perfect fit. It wasn't that difficult to put it together either.

This is a good sign. I have an SLK800 that would fit, then. That w/a 80mm Panaflo and I'm in business.

When those mATX NF3250 boards hit, I'm in.

Curious about your temps, too.

I got the case, put in a Shuttle motherboard with an AthlonXP 2500+.

I had a helluva time getting it to run. It just wouldn't switch on. I noticed when unplugging the PSU that I was hearing a little noise, so I am getting some power through there, but the switch didn't seem to work. So I hit the reset, then hit power, boom, it works.

Wow, nice. Load Windows, get it updated. Turned it off and on at least 10 times since my Windows version is sans SP1 and the updates require a boatload of reboots. Then pull the plug, put on the panels, plug it in again. Darn thing won't switch on. Tried hitting reset and then power, nothing.

I'm stumped. I've checked the power wires and the switch and reset cables, they're all fine. Nothing has changed other than I put the panels on.

I'm thinking there must be something in the power supply that isn't working right since I know the mobo works. Since I was hearing a noise when I was plugging and unplugging, there must be juice coming in. I just don't get it. Is it possible that the arcing that's causing the noise is causing the power supply to fault and it's a matter of waiting for it to reset?

Thresher,

You should just try to turn on the system by shorting the power-on pins instead of using the switch. If you still have a problem, the power supply could be a problem instead of the swich module. Also, you might want to re-seat the motherbaord. You might be having a extra stand causing a problem (bad grounding).

I am running Mobile Athlin XP Burton 2600+@2200Mhz. I think that it's running around 50C if I remember correctly.

I hate motherbaords having an unnecessory fan on the chipset, so for that, I will pick Asus.

On the other hand, Asus seems to be way too expensive for what it is.

I like my Biostar which is the cheapest at Newegg at only $66. Unfortunately, the newer versions of Biostar do not have all the overclocking options like the older ones.

I don't overclock because I have no idea what I am doing. Does the Biostar have all the connections for the front ports?(firewire, usb, audio)

Unfortunately, it does not have the firewire.

Shuttle seems to be nice because it has dual VGA outs if you are planning on using two monitors.

Chaintech, MSI, and Albatron have TV out which would be nice if you are planning on connecting it to a TV although I personally find TV out feature pretty useless. (Asus sells an add-on card for this feature)

Asus, Biostar, Epox, and MSI are good because they don't come with a stupid chipset fan to negate the silent characteristic of Aria case.

Shuttle, Epox, Albatron, and MSI do not seem to support 400Mhz FSB.

Well, tough choice, I guess. If 400Mhz support and not having a chipset fan are important and you are willing to spend extra, Asus would be a choice. If having a fan is not a problem, Chaintech seems to be a good choice.

If firewire is not important, Biostar does the job well.

Good luck.

I put my MB, HD, and DVD-ROM in today. Went with the Shuttle MN31N and I must say it is a nice looking board. Wanted built in sound and the video is nice till I can upgrade later. All going together very nicely but I have to say, "Remove the PS Completely" for accessibilty. Easy to do. Fans on chipset is not BD to me but I understand the feelings.

Now if I could only deceide on Processor to put in!! Looks like my Vantec AeroFlow will fit so Ill never hear the chipset fan anyway!

Thresher-

Did you check all the connectors on the front panel? Ones under the card reader were half way off on mine. Dont know what they are for as of yet as I am not that far along in building so may not affect your problem but a thought.

How loud do you think the fan is on the motherboard?

Some chipset fans are louder than the other.

It look that Shuttle has a half way decent heatsink under the fan, so it will probably run OK even if you take the fan off. And it looks like it is very easy to take the fan on or off.

It looks that Chaintech heatsink would not work well without the fan.

You can also try one of aftermarket chipset heatsink like this.

www.svc.com has them a little cheaper also.

I am very close to buy the shuttle mobo and the aria, anything you see worth mentioning about the combo?
Does the motherboard support controlling of fan speeds like on shuttle sff ? How's everything else working out? You guys think this will be able to cool 2 hdds and a dvdrom without and trouble?

Full sized cards as in... massive nvidia vga cards? There's plenty of room in my sonata for full size cards... but he was asking about the aria anyway. I hope they redesign the front bezel at some point, its kinda fugly imo.

i have the sonata and a radeon 9700 pro .. is that full size?

ARIA system up and running. Shuttle MN31N board with 1700+ @ 166 FSB so far. Vantec Aeroflow is giving a good solid 40C with AS not yet "set up" This same set up gave me 37-40c in an Antec 1030B case at 12.5x166.

Buttoned up this case is only a little louder than my Toshiba laptop! Audible but not intrusive.

Hope this helps someone.

I'm running an Aria with an MSI KM4AM-L, 512MB PC3200 RAM (Mushkin Green), an Athlon XP 2600+ (333 MHz FSB), and my old Radeon 7500. It's been working like a charm for the past week.

Dang you guys, your making this case sound more and more like a good buy. I am considering one, but if I go that route I will likely put an Athlon XP system in it. Just wondering if its a good idea to buy all those new parts when they will be changing the socket soon. But man those things are cheap.

I really wanted to go 64bit, but again not sure I wanted to go with 754 when it will end up not having any new 64bit CPU's after a while. While I can wait for socket 939 to come out, i am just not sure I want to wait for the prices on it to stabalize.

I think what I am gonna do is wait for just a bit to see what happens around June, hopefully at the very least a nice mATX Nforce2 400Gb board will be out and I will go with that and a nice mobile barton.

Great responses guys. Thanks for sharing. I still haven't made up my mind yet. I will though once the NF3250 boards get released en-masse.
