Anyone using wireless router..need advice:

I want to have a computer in the house about 100 ft away to share my LAN cable connection and don't have but (1) IP address. Need advice on whats the best wireless combo to buy?
What do they come with, a router box and a couple NIC cards and some software or what ??

I have a Linksys firewall/router and I plug an Lucent Orinoco RG1000 wireless gateway into it and use the Orinoco Silver PCMCIA wireless cards with this gateway. (I assume you don't have a firewall with your system?)

All works fine but, if I was going to do it all over again I would look into the Linksys firewall/gateway that has the wireless capability built into it. You get everything in one package.

Anyone using this and can comment on it?

100 ft is pretty far,
i've got a wireless barricade and, although i like it,
there's no way it's going 100 ft through walls

does anybody out there have distance experience
with their wireless laptop?

The SMC product in my exp has terrible range. Orinoco is MUCH better. BTW, an Orinoco RG1000 does have routing, NAT, PPPoE, DHCP, etc funtionality built in. You may need a firmware upgrade. I like the USB nics for tower PC's. It gets the wireless card up onto the desktop, and out ouf the bottom of the tower, which helps range. It is also cheaper than the PC card and PCI adapter.

did a search and linksys kepps coming up but even there site doesn't have any absolute answers, I run a w2k box with a NIC that connects to my cable modem and i just want to get the same service to my downstaires PC....thats all.
