ap computer science??

<P>wow, i haven't posted here in ages.<BR><BR>anyway, i am going to be a junior this year, and i am considering trying to learn c++ independantly and then trying to take the computer science ap...i already know javascript really well (ithink)as well as some php...i have heard that the syntax and concepts between these and c++ are similar, so i am hoping that it won't be too tough, but i would like to be sure this is feasible...those of you have taken the computer science ap: is it really hard? does what i am suggesting sound possible? will it be a ton of work doing it all on my own (will i even be able to do it?)? also, is the curriculum of the computer science ap just c++? or is there other stuff on there? i heard that they are adding java in a few years, but not yet, right?<BR><BR>i would be grateful if anyone who has experiencewith the computer science apcould help me out with these questions...</P>

Its just C++ right now. Will be Java later. I found it to be insanely easy, and all I had was QBasic and HTML experience. Then again, I am amazing I got a 5 on the test my junior year, I actually thing I got like a 95% when you only need a 75% for the 5. If you know javascript and whatnot, it should be a breeze. Then again, the second highest grade in my class was a 3

There's the A test and the AB test. I took the A test because I wouldn;t have gotten anymore credit with the AB, got a 5 on it. It was really easy. The AB test includes some linked lists, pointers, binary search trees, I think. Check with the colleges you will be applying to and see if they accept either test and what score you need. Usually you don;t get much credit for it because it just scratches the surface of programming. I got 4 credit hours, not bad I guess.

thanks for the replies. is there anything else on the AB test besides c++? i thought i heard somewhere that there are a couple questions about computer hardware...is that true?

no, there are no questions at all about computer hardware. Its the same test as the A version (some are exactly the same questions and 1 of the free response is exactly the same), just that it goes more in detail and you have to know more about C++ to do welll in it. I took both yaers of Computer Science AP at my school and I got a 5 on the AB test. I thought it was the easiest AP test I took that year (then again, I am majoring in CS so its what I'm good at).

i took the tests 2 years ago when i was in high school... tehy're REALLY Easy... i got a 5 on both tests... it's easy ap credit and it looks good on your transcript... although it might not give you that many units... i'm getting 2 unassigned units for the A test, and 4 for the B test at UCLA

i took them both. 3 years ago. I got a 4 on both of them unlike my friend slikmunks over there (he really is a friend of mine, lived down the hall). Its a good class to take i guess, but they dont give you credits for it anywhere. Slikmunks forgot everything he learned it seems though.
