but to make him out to be an idiot for trying to help people just makes you look like an asshat.
I never questioned Ed Smarts intentions. I think it's great that he got his daughter back. I also think it's great that he gives to the needy and tries to help people down on their luck.
I also think he shares some reponsibilty. The one thing you don't ever do is let strangers that you have no clue about anywhere near your children. How many people here would hire a babysitter for their kids without knowing everything possible about that person? Would you allow a vagrant to babysit your kids?

I don't really know what to say. This is real bizarre. Unless she's a total moron, this almost sounds like this thing was set up. I mean if any 14-15 year old was kidnapped they would run away. This guy didn't lock her up in a house in the middle of woods, these people were out in public. She had countless chances to run away, say something etc.. I heard that authorities stopped them on multiple occasions and she lied about her name. Even a 5 year old would be smart enough to say something if the police stopped him. I think this girl has a LOT of explaining to do. I don't buy the sweet little innocent kidnapping story. Too many holes.

Good news for her family (and the many other families of other missing children - there may be hope for them too).

I have to agree that this does seem somewhat suspicious, but who knows what that freako did to her. If it does turn out that she willingly went with him, she should take a lot of heat for letting others be accused of the kidnapping.

Im glad that she's home safe. Its kind of refreshing to hear some good news like this. The outcomes are usually always gruesome in cases like this.

That is true. Anyone would have recognized her If she only took off her veil.

Agreed. There's more to this story than meets the eye.

I live in Utah also and I can tell you something just isn't right about this. I'm glad she's home but it just isn't adding up. And you better believe the Utah media isn't going to investigate anything right now.

I agree. She's either ...

1 - a moron
2 - was brainwashed and/or manipulated
3 - agreeable to the whole idea

or a combination of the three.

I'm happy that her family has been reunited. I was going to say that "I am happy that she has been reunited with her family ..." but what if she's not really that happy at the moment? Maybe she's bummed out that she's busted after 9 months of living the vagabond high life. Who knows? With all this weird info going on who knows what to think?

This is some weird ass Utah shite!

Yeah I live in Utah too. And I just don't know what to think.

Me and my friends were going to try and find her last summer.

I'm glad she's with her family though.

She was staying with these people willingly, who knows why. There is all kinds of stories coming out now about people seeing her out in public wearing a veil. She was even at a party with these people, apparently blocks from her home in Utah. She made no attempts to get away or let anyone know she was being held against her will. Very strange.

What about the screen on the window being cut from both the inside and the outside?

I will say these things, being from Salt Lake like many others:

Cross Roads Mall is a large shopping center in downtown SLC, and panhandlers outside the front doors are not uncommon. This guy was there all the time begging for change. If you put some money in his cup he would stand up and begin to shout about how you needed to be saved. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. Many of my friends and coworkers have encounterd him before also.

The composite sketch from the 9 year old sister is a very good match to shaved version of the lunatic in question.

After watching local newscast and hearing accounts of people who have been in contact with her she is happy to be home again and has missed her family. The consensus is he manipulated her through threats of harm to her sister/family. They spent the first couple month after she was abducted camping in the mountains. I mean come on, "yeah help me run away, lets go camping!" Then going as far east as Atlanta, maybe further, and finally back to Utah on some kind of psycho religious pilgrimage.

Read some more of the articles. She made no attempt because there were always at least 2 people with her.

I just feel for the family of Richard Ricci. The guy they first thought did it. That poor man sat in Jail knowing the whole world thinks he did it, and even died in jail while the world thought he did it. I feel bad now that he was put through this, just to be cleared after he dies in prison for stealing a couple things from the Smarts house...

I wonder, If he wasn't a suspect in the first place, would the Smarts have pressed charges against him on the petty theft? things that make u go hmmmmm....

EDIT: Do not read this wrong plz. I am very very happy for the Smart family in getting their daughter back alive. I just feel this Richard guy was dragged through the mud for nada.....

He still may have been an accomplice. Who knows.

Dude, give me a break. How does having two people with her prevent her from ripping off her veil and yelling "help me, I've been kidnapped"? They were in the middle of a party, for gods sake. Unless the guy had a remote-controlled instant killing device implanted on her. Yeah right.

One guy from San Diego said he was talking to the man and Elizabeth and the woman were both giggling under their veils behind him. You don't giggle if you are fearing for your life or something. Whatever happened, I guess she's ashamed now and trying to make excuses.

It is possible I guess, but from I have heard thus far, this emmanuel and Richard Ricci did not even know each other. They only thing that links both those guys together is they both worked as a handyman for the Smarts at different times.
