The person before me in this apt was a smokestack, I had the carpets steam cleaned and it still reeks. I'm thinking it's on the walls which I can't exactly clean b/c it's latex based paint. Any suggestions? Was thinking about trying some of that Zorbx stuff, anyone tried it?

Well, you should try that dog mess powder to absorb urine smell out of carpet... powder it down, wait, vacuum it up. Though you will need a lot of it, you could try it on a small section and smell that section to see if it works.

i hate to say it being a smoker that garbage sticks to the walls horribly. In college me and my roommate both smoked and needless to say when we moved out we took down some pictures and the wall was 2 different colors. I haven't smoked inside anyplace since then.

You should really look for a solution you can clean latex paint with.

You're never going to totally get rid of the smell. Washing the walls and repainting them will help, but it's in the insulation behind the walls and everywhere. Why would you rent an apartment that reeked of smoke if you're not a smoker?

I'm a smoker and haven't smoked inside for about 15 years. Once you have to clean some place after it's been smoked in for years, you lose your desire to do it again...(and you SHOULD lose the desire to smoke, but that's retardation for a different thread!)

Find a primer that is designed to mask smells that are worked into the materials behind it.

If it's an apartment complex, ask the landlord if there is another unit you can switch to that doesn't smell like shit.

Well, I'm renting it because it's so dam cheap for the space in such a good location. Only downside is the smell. The guy smoked so much there were cig butts in the bed we threw out, just nasty.

I guess I'll try to repaint the walls (I'll check out that Bullseye primer that was linked), and use a ton of air freshners in conjunction with an air filter. Either that or find a decent safe cleaner for latex paint.

Rent an ionizer machine (about $50 for a weekend). or buy one and keep it on low... The high end units work great but can damage your lungs if run while you're home... I cleaned an apartment this way of cig smoke and got rid of a nasty burned chicken smell in my home with a few of these running over a weekend... I was skeptical, but they really work... Make sure to verify the room capacity (sq ft) so you get one large enough to do the job...

Smokings f$*king nasty.

Go to a paint store and ask a sales person if there is anything you can do, I'm sure they've been asked before.
