Does anyone know anything about these tvs? This seems like a pretty good tv and I am looking for a new tv. Are they decently reliable?

I don't know too much about them. But everytime I saw them I thought they looked like the type of tv's that you would replace every other year because the picture would get worse.... anyone else?

Apex is a "leader" product, meaning it is the lower end product that salesmen lead with to begin "stepping" you up to a higher margin product. Seems to be ok product, but I agree with lancestorm, it is more disposable than the higher end stuff.

Decently reliable? Maybe for a year or two.
Their customer service support is almost nonexistant. (OMGDONTDOIT)

I would suggest waiting till you can get a good deal on a hdtv. From what I've seen, places like walmart are clearing out the older models for not much more than that apex.

I have a 27" Apex. For what I got it for, $120 it's been a great tv. No problems so far in 2.6years.

I had the same question myself. I was looking at $300 27" TVs and a $120 27" Apex kept calling me over (Circuit City with 10% off any TV coupon), luring me with the low price. So I looked a bit more closely at them. The in-store display had multiple defects, due to what looked like crappy design (such as the front button panel nearly falling off). But that wasn't enough to sway me.

I looked at reviews, and the Apex TVs always were rated right at the bottom for picture and sound quality. That almost did it, but not quite.

What finally swayed me away was the absolute lack of anyone with happy stories about them. Sure one person's opinion could be a fluke, but the stories of good service are absolutely non existant. Combine with all the above, and I decided I'd rather pay $300 for a TV that should last 15 years than a $120 TV that may last 3.

I made the mistake of buying an Apex product once, never again. I bought an Aspire Digital 1100 DVD player (a rebranded Apex AD1100) and it is utter crap. It's designed so poorly that the DVD tray can't close half the time without catching on the springloaded door that covers it. It had very minimal use (something in the realm of 10 DVDs played on it) over two months and the drive died.

I seriously doubt shipping would be cheap enough to even bother trying to get the $50 player repaired.

Apex products are what in store warranties are made for. If they'll even offer it for them.

Costco had a 32" JVC, Sony and Apex displaying the same picture side by side and the Apex was pretty bad. I guess it wouldn't be too bad if you weren't comparing them side by side though. The price is right though

Oh man i hate Apex. I got a DVD player from them a few years ago. It died in 6 months. i got a replacement and it died in 6 months. the did it yet again and that one lasted close to a year before it died.

Finally i just got my cash back and got a Sony CD/DVD player (dvd player finally died after 5 years)

I would never buy onother Apex again

My Apex 1500 dvd has been rock solid. For TV's I like Toshiba. Sony is crap in my experience. My Sony VCR's have died within a year while my Toshiba VCR is still going strong after 10 years. My gf works at Apex corporate office. Yeah..the CS dept is pretty non existent and pretty poorly untrained.

Don't buy Apex anything. Even if you don't care if its disposable, buy a better brand so at least when you're ready to upgrade to something better you'll have a TV with some resale value.

Apex TVs are crap. My roommate last year bought a $80 20" one for our dorm room and it was by far the worst tv I've ever seen. The colors were awful, dimmed and off, and the sound was atrocious. It apparantly had mono sound but for some reason any low frequency sound created a static hum. Oh, and it had 1 composite input, and after a month or 2 use we plugged an rca device into it and the plug jammed and broke off.

You get what you pay for definitely applies here. Apex is cheap in every sense of the word.
Avoid.

I sell TV's and these are the things you should know about Apex:

1. you cant get them serviced, so if they break you have to buy a new one.
2. they are cheap for a reason (they are made in chinese sweatshops buy kids with SARS. Where a mask when you open the box.
3. all your friends will look down on you for buying such a cheap TV. Girls will not talk to you if they know you own an apex.

I have an Apex 500w dvd player (for a few years now) and it still looks great. No problems in that area.

It all depends on what you want. Do you want to pay a decent chunk of change and get a "good" one now? Or do you want to pay as little as you can for a working tv, and maybe in a few years upgrade to HDTV and whatnot?

If the second sounds like a good plan to you, I'd say go with the Apex. When you upgrade down the line, you can always stick it in a bedroom.

I got my samsung 26" widescreen HDTV for 600 dollars (you can probably get it cheaper now w/coupons) at Sears and I am quite satisfied with it. I'd much rather spend the extra money on the samsung (also I wouldn't buy a 4:3 HDTV since all HDTV programming is widescreen).

Everyone but me must be having a bad experience. Glad I got lucky.

I bought an Apex 20 inch flat CRT a few months ago and I couldn't be happier with it. The picture is nice and sharp from my DVD player's componant input and I get decent (not great, not bad) sound from it too. It took a little fiddling with the picture settings, but it was not that difficult to get a very nice picture from it. Out of the box the color was set way too high and reds would bleed over terribly, but a few minutes with the settings yielded a very nice picture. It's not going to rival a Vega, but it's damn close for a helluva lot less money.

Of course, bear in mind that this Apex TV replaced a 13-inch GE television that I pulled out of a dumpster back when I was in High School.

Still, I haven't had any trouble with it.

Are you talking about that 27" Advent HDTV at BB? I almost bought that I couple of times. The picture is excellent, better than the pricier Samsung usually next to it, but lots cheaper. I couldn't find any reviews on it and it didn't have a 16:9 mode so I passed, but the picture was excellent.

Only had experience with one Apex product, a DVD player. It died in about 4 months so I took it back and used the store credit to get a $30 more GE DVD player. Had the GE for about 2 years and its still working great.

#2. That was me. When you are a college student, the extra $50 can go a long long long way. The way I looked at it, $120 (for just throwing out the TV) once I graduate and have a job doesn't have as much value as $50 (for getting something a bit nicer) does now.
