Ok. So long story short, I bought an Asus TS500-E4/PA4 coupled with 2 E5345's a while ago. I realized after a while of using it pretty intensively that I needed to improve the cooling and ditched the case. Long story short, I have shorted one power supply and possibly (but not definitely) the board for the TS500, and need to get a replacement motherboard.
The current case I have that I am trying to put this in is a Coolermaster 1000S. Now while I'm very aware that I've done some stupid things (I drilled holes into the Coolermaster 1000S to mount the cooling for the mobo+Ultima90 cooling solution I was trying to use), I'm trying to avoid any more hardware headaches than I've run into so far by finding a motherboard that will be a good fit for 2x E5345's, the coolermaster 1000s case, and the Thermalright Ultima's with the Xeon bolt-thru kit.
I know this is a tall order, but I'm kind of hoping that I can just get a standard ATX motherboard like the SUPERMICRO MBD-X7DAL-E-O and hopefully the problems I am currently having (which are legion) will go away.
---
My stupid story below:
I don't know if this post makes any sense, but basically what I did was drill some holes in the motherboard track/backing plate to try to adapt the 1000S to fit the Xeon's placement on the TS500 motherboard. This, in short, was a very very very bad idea for me to undertake and I have probably managed to short my current motherboard (hopefully just that) in the process. So I'm buying a new motherboard that will *hopefully* mount the CPUs in a place that will fit the case better.
----
Anyone have any advice/comments for someone who clearly is over their head?
Rob
