It's been a long road but they have finally taken responsibility and are fixing affected systems. Now to dig up my old box to get the serial number off of it. This should have been done a long time ago. Link

I've not heard of the issues before, but have a MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2011), and Apple's wording has me confused.

Apple has determined that a small percentage of MacBook Pro systems may exhibit distorted video, no video, or unexpected system restarts. These MacBook Pro systems were sold between February 2011 and December 2013.
This makes it sound like only a few of the models in question have the issue. If it's all that were sold between a two year period, that doesn't sound like a "small percentage" to me. Did they just choose this wording to save face?
Note: If your MacBook Pro is not experiencing any of these symptoms and is not one of the products affected, you do not need to contact Apple.
So are all of the listed models affected? Or there's a chance yours is ok even if you have the model in question. Do I need to contact apple just to find out if mine is affected? I've never had any of the issues they describe with mine, but it is "one of the products affected."

It sounds like they are saying "Out of this larger pool of systems that have similar/identical hardware, a small percentage of them may have a fault that causes issues. If you are experiencing issues, let us know. If you aren't, you don't need to do anything."

I have a late 2011 15", and its been fine. I think if it haven't had any issues by now, it probably won't. Now, if it turns out they are replacing them with newer 15" retinas, I'll stick it in the oven for an hour!

I have a 15" rMBP that has had the reboot issue once or twice. I wonder if it is worth taking it in and having it checked out. I don't have Apple Care (bought it used) though. I don't recall if it is the early 2013 or the late 2013 though. I should check when I get home.

How many times has this happened? I'd be reluctant to buy any Apple product with nvidia inside

This is a huge issue that has affected a ton of systems. Granted the install base of Apple is fairly small but the amount of systems of that percentage effectuated is rather large. The base design of that computer is flawed, it took a lawsuit to finally get them to do something. Owners complained for a long time and nothing was done, finally it's being taken care of. Now I will have a second computer to find some use for.

Common issue at our office.

3 out of 3 early 2013 MBPr have all had this issue, fortunately our IT guy stuck them in a closet, we'll be taking advantage of this repair program even though we all have mid 2014 MBPr now.

It's weird how both 2011 - 2013 machines are affected when 2011 had AMD, but 2012/2013 were nvidia.

Got the call mine is back at the store. Won't be able to get it until sometime next week when I am up that direction. They wouldn't ship it to me, six hour round trip to get the damn thing.
