Voted ADnroid because Apple is falling way behind. The keyboard sucks.

Having said that, why not consider a Blackberry Z10? Unless you require games, it is the best thing out there. Don't believe me, just go try it out some time at a store. You'd be shocked as to how good it is.

Is it in stores yet? I've no intention of switching but I do want to try one out.

Red,

You can see them in Best Buy and AT&T. I think T-Mobile also has it now. Thursday, Verizon would have it.

From what I've read, Id wait a few more days for training to complete at AT&T. I've read everything from people going to AT&T and having a good demo of the phone to "what's a Z10?"(even though they had it in stock).

Not sure if Verizon salespeople are fully trained yet.

But as of Thursday, all carriers except one will have it in stock. AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon will have it as of Thursday. And of course, you can just go to Best Buy.

The phones are in demo mode though. A salesperson could unlock demo mode for you but they are usually hesitant to do so. If you're lucky a salesperson will have one that you can play with.

As for Verizon, I've read that if you didn't pre-order, supplies at brick and mortars will be tight.

I had a play with one at work the other day. It was OK, I wouldnt say it was shockingly good though.

Just came back from an AT&T store, checked out the Z10 for a good half hour (and in that time not one employee approached to offer help. Not that I needed it, but still...).

Overall I like the OS. Doesn't seem like there's all that much customization available though. I will say that even after my fairly quick look it's probably my 2nd favorite phone OS. There were annoyances like the battery/time/reception icons disappearing in certain apps so the only way to tell the time would be to go back to the home screen. Also in some apps I'd spend a second or two wondering where I was supposed to tap to go back from a menu option but I figured it out soon enough. Couldn't find a market anywhere, but it was on demo mode so maybe that's why?

The device itself is nice and light. It definitely needs less bezel though, especially the sides but on the top and bottom as well. I loved the button free, gesture based navigation. It's similar to how I use my Android phone now (swipe down for notifications, swipe up for apps, double tap for Gesture Search).

All in all I like it, however it's still a step below Android to me, with the two biggest reasons being apps and hardware (Android has really pushed ahead here). But if I had to choose between iOS, WP8 and BB10, I'd more than likely go BlackBerry, assuming the apps continue to be made/ported.

Red,

Good comments. I always apreciate someone that is open minded instead of assuming things can't be good.

One note. Some of the bezel is for the touchscreen since gestures actually start outside of where the visible screen is.

FWIW: I think the Z10 and GS3 are really showing how outdated the iPhone has become.

For now, I generally say that if games matter, the Z10 isn't for you. I do hope they get more and more apps ported though. If games don't matter, the Z10 is atleast worth consideration.

Mine is officailly shipped from Verizon. Actually excited to get it. Need to port over Pandora and RunKeeper for the Z10 tonight. I've read that both work fine on the Z10 so I'm in good shape

Thanks for that review red. As it manager I get to try many mobile devices and was going to skim over the z10 but I will be getting one for testing. As well as an HTC one.

Yeah the OS does have a lot going for it. It's pretty close to how I use my Android devices. Over time I've moved further and further away from the cliched homescreen setup and have focused on simplicity and efficiency. The only thing is that I'm so entrenched in the Google ecosystem (and for good reason, their services are great), that it will be really difficult to pull me away from that. My phone simply must be able to utilize Gmail, Google Talk, Google Voice, and Google Maps very well. Not to mention Google Music, Calendar, Contacts, etc.

Z10 has probably the best software tech out of the major mobile operating systems, but I fear it's too little too late. While I hope it won't, but I think it will head the way of WebOS.

There isn't anything better for me right now than my Note 2. Larger screen and enough horsepower and memory to get the job done. I've used iOS a fair amount and just feels awkward to me, BB is dead to me after suffering with a Storm, but I would give WP8 a fair shake if they would offer a top tier Nokia phone on Verizon.

never used iOS. However, to get back its former position in the market Apple needs to produce smartphones for various market segments, not just the high-end market. Samsung is killing Apple since it has mulitple high end devices at once as well as the Y, Champ, etc.

Whether Jobs only wanted one phone is irrelevant and immaterial since he's dead. Whether Cook is scared Jobs's ghost will haunt him if he proposes to the Apple board to make a mid-range iPhone I don't know. Either way, he should take the haunting like a man and don't be a pussy, if it's for the good of the company.

In what sense does it have the best software tech?

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't proposition for Apple.

Designing a phone with a larger screen size, or revamping the interface of iOS, would undoubtedly improve their market position in the near term.

But doing so means they're playing follow the leader, instead of being the leader.

They were doomed anyway. I don't think Apple will have any sort of dominant position in the mobile marketplace in 5 years (maybe a 10% global share at best). Once they start making large screened phones and copy more features from Android, it will boost their sales in the near term, but will chip away at their "premium" image in the long term.

Numbers from February 2013 look grim for the year-over-year growth of iOS:

Android. The iPhone 5 is antiquated at this point and has a subpar, low res display, with crappy pixel density and a dated os.

In the last 6 months I've owned and iPhone4, Lumia 920, and currently a Note 2. So I've had my hands on most of the major player's OS wise.

iOS is the most reliable and adopted.
WP8 is cute, but woefully behind in function and features.
Jellybean based devices are the most functional at the cost of battery life, stupid quirks, lockups, complexity.

I love the size of my GN2, the hardware and options (SD card, removable battery, ect) and under appreciated things like customizable keyboards, functional download capability, and the ability to drag and drop music, video, and movies to it.

But good grief does it have some stupid ass quirks that drive me batty. The damn thing doesn't even have lock screen controls for most basic music functions, Slacker music is an abortion trying to use over blue tooth, it's got a terrible battery drain that is compensated by a monstrous battery size, and just odd little things like screen response, the screen not turning off after inactivity, and other little nagging things just make me wish for a larger sized iPhone again.
