That's true but these systems aren't the best servers available in the PC world. A dual Xeon/Palomino server will absolutely cane Apple's machine, a machine that is Apple's best.
Remember the Xserve comes with the OS (Unix) and software pre-configured, and unlimited licencing. See here. (If you bought it separately, Mac OS X.1 Server with unlimited licencing alone would cost US$1000.) While you can buy a cheap dual Xeon server, with the prices you see online you get simply the hardware.

This thing, like most of Apple's late model machines, looks great. It's so trendy and overpriced. I think they should just start selling their computers at places like Sharper Image... oh wait, they are already doing that. It's called "The Apple Store".

On the otherhand, the OS X server looks pretty cool. The monitoring software also looks like a good time. I wonder how it performs

and that is a truly absurd comparison, since a dual xeon machine costs $10,493,931,943,499.99.

That is one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen I'm not a fan of mac's but I have to admit the XServe is awsome. From looking at the pic I may be wrong but the G4 processors have no heatsinks on them at all?! Just a comple blowers behind them, how the hell is that possible?

True, but only for outboard storage solutions AFAIK.

I couldnt find anything that tell if and how it supports RAID. If that is lacking I dont think it will do very well as the way I see it the point of having lots of HDDs in a server is to make sure that the info you got there stays there, not that you can store alot. Atleast that is the point if you ask me

EDIT: Just found out that there will be a xServe RAID out before the end of the year (hopefully) that will add RAID and it apparently has a maximum of no less that 1.68TeraBytes of HDD space.
