I fail to see your logic.
In case you have not heard, USB 802.11g adapters can be had for as low as 5$. (I bought a Belkin CardBus 802.11b card for that price not two weeks ago).

Can you get Mac drivers for that $5 USB 802.11g adapter, though? Most of them only seem to support Windows.

Maybe wireless was made an option because Apple didn't think most of the initial Mini users would need it?

I bought a Mini to play with and then to give to my grandpa. I might buy another for myself to plug into my KVM switch. In my case I'll just plug it into my ethernet switch (after all, I already have to plug in power, audio, DVI, and USB too). And for my grandpa, he'll be making use of the internal modem.

I see the Mini as another computer to add to the stack and plug into your existing LAN and KVM switch. Probably not a huge need for wireless when you can just plug in a spare Cat5 cable and be guaranteed full duplex 100Mbit.

Now for HTPC uses, that's where I would indeed pay extra (or demand a free bundled) wireless cad.

No, 2.5" hard drives shouldn't be discontinued, 4200RPM 2.5" hard drives should be. The 7200RPM ones are every bit as fast as a desktop 3.5" hard drive.

BTW, it's not $129 for wireless IIRC, that's the price for wireless + bluetooth. I think wireless is like $79 which is still a bit pricy, but hey the total cost isn't too much. Also, you can easily connect a firewire or USB 2.0 7200rpm hard drive to the mac externally if you want to use it for a fast home theater server...
