True, certain managers at the store can give you a deal and if it's not good enough you can always ask the store manager. I know there was a discontinued digital camera i was looking to get and i asked one of the managers and she knocked a few bucks off ... then the employee told me to check out some other website and i found it cheaper than what she offered. Definitely a big YMMV. I know the store manager in my area sucks and doesn't give good deals on clearanced/damaged/discontinued merchandise.Originally posted by: Greenman
Guess it's just the luck of the draw. I've always recieved great service and very fair prices (not on computer stuf).
Marks70, I was looking at a big screen that was open box, it was just a bare tv, but it was half off. Perhaps the manager at each store can decide what price to ask for items they are dumping? All I know for sure is they had some great deals at my local store.

Slightly off topic, and definitely not thread-crapping as you got an awesome deal. But I was just there, and they had an open box 42" Sony HDTV LCD TV that didn't even have all the accessories. Normally $1,499, and they were trying to sell it for $100 off at $1,399. Wow, what a bargain.
I haven't worked in retail in about 4 years, but back then, Sony would accept RMAs on almost everything....so there really is no incentive for any retailer to sell Sony stuff below cost. As a result, you'll almost never see ridiculous mark downs on Sony open box stuff.
True...I always wonder if they put dvds in and leave them on the menu screen for too long with the brightness up high. (they like to have bright images to compete with the store lights) Perfect candidate for screen burn-in.Originally posted by: ZYFER
when buying floor models, TVs are one of the least things you want to buy as you don't know how long they have been in use or how much they have been abused. You might not notice how much you got screwed till later.
