i have a silver2k GT. 18k miles, no problems. people forget one thing. the GT was designed as a CRUISER, not as a RACER like the GST/GSX. plus, the interior is a lot nicer/comfortable than that of 2nd gens. and since it's not a turbo, insurance will be lower.even so, we have one around st. louis whoopin on Z28s.

aftermarket support is slowly coming. MPH is doing a LOT for us. their supercharger is almost out, and they should be starting work on a turbo shortly. get one. you won't regret it.

as for hondas, you can eat hondas left and right, especially if you're on any kind of incline. the GT can manhandle the s2000 up a hill, but the s2000 can take it on flat roads.

The New Eclipses are not that fast as it looks. Even with it's 200 Hp engine, it can "only" hit 0-60 in about the low 7 sec range (that's still fast). The car itself is geared more towards the older crowd rather than the young buyers who would buy a Celica.

the AUTO will do low to mid 7s. the STICK will do high to mid 6s.

the eclipse will take pretty much anything off the line. but because other cars' rev limiter is 2k+ higher than teh eclipse's, they can catch up at top end.

what is wrong with the ECLIPSE? like examples

what is WRONG with the car is that there are tons of other BETTER cars out there. I'm trying to tell you, that the Nissan Maxima is just as fast, more reliable, and looks better (in my opinion). THAT is what is wrong with the eclipse.

like you said, that is YOUR opinion. the maxima IS a nice car, but it IS a 4-door sedan. and the reason why it is slightly quicker is because it weighs 100lb less and has an extra 20hp.

but like i said, it IS a family car. some people, myself included, might not find that too appealing.

i'm not sure what autoexebat (i just noticed it's autoexebat, not autoexecbat, which is strange) is looking for in a car, but the the eclipse and maxima are different kinds of cars, one is a large sedan and the other is a sporty touring coupe. kinda like telling a guy who wants a celica to buy a v6 camry. yes, the maxima has similar power but is 4 grand more list for the GXE or SE than the mitsuGT (25k vs 21k), so i would assume used prices would reflect this too.

personally, i think the new maxima looks kinda funky in the back, i liked the older models, but a lot of people think the mitsu looks funky, so who knows?

if you'd like to elaborate, auto, it might help. also wondering how old you are.

some notes: the 3G eclipse isn't really a sports car like the 2G was, more of a touring coupe...the new v6 and the elimination of AWD and the turbo turned it into a car for the older crowd, as gibson mentioned. i see a lot of older people driving them. but hey, mitsubishi did what they wanted to do, sell more eclipses...there are 3 new ones at my apartment complex.

and as per the ferrari thing above, it's the side strakes. and kids are kids.

In a word, YES!

Go to a car lot and test drive it, you'll love it. I've driven a '95, '98, and a '91, they ALL are excellent cars.

But the 2000 and 2001's look "cheap", I'd get a '95-'99. And use the money you didn't spend to make it faster

Most cars are built right here in the USA now , if not here then in Canada or Mexico . It's too expensive to import them so they just build them here . The profits just go back overseas .

There's over 10 years of information at Club DSM.

I've got a '92 Galant VR-4 I bought new which now has close to 130k miles on it and the car is still tight though the VR-4's were actually imported from Japan.

it doesn't have to be a Maxima, I was just giving an example of a better car. Other better cars include just about anything from Nissan, Honda, and Toyota. I say this because those three car companies are known for reliability. Mitsubishi is NOT known for their reliability. When I see a mitsu, I think, what a moron, that guy bought a car because it looks good, and only because of that. Is that the impression you want to give people? i know other people may think differently, but there are a LOT of people who think the same as I do (about the cheapness).

If Mitsu's are so bad then why did Car and Driver rate the Galant #1 over the Accord, Camry, and Altima in their last comparison?

yeah, buy a Honda or a Toyota, and look like everyone else on the block! and if you modify it, you'll be lumped into the Rice category almost by default. I drove an Eclipse with the V6 (forget the model) just last week, and it was sweet as hell. and they aren't as common as Hondoyota

I'm not claiming to know tons with cars...but Psh...screw the eclipse. Go with what the other guy said and get a 240SX or a 300ZX. Or if you want to be able to modify all to hell, get the original "classic" 240Z. But assuming you want fairly stock...get the 300ZX TT....SWEET car. On another note, the 240SX will run FOREVER if you take even half-decent care of it.

My friend had an Eclipse and from the beginning after a year it started giving her a lot of trouble. Lots of mechanical problems, cant remember what they were specifically. It seems that Mitsubishi may have had some quality control issues with some older Eclipse's, I dont know if they've solved them yet. But for $13k I'd rather buy me a nice used Accord, they are rock solid. Heck you could almost buy a new Civic which IMO would be much more reliable then an Eclipse. May not be as aggressive as the Eclipse, but you said you yourself, you're not racing around anyways.

Car and Driver is gonna have another sedan comparo sometime this year and I gurantee that the Galant is not gonna finish above the new Camry or Altima.

The 3rd gens are blah. Get a 2nd gen GS-T, you should be able to find like a 97-98 with low milage.

benchiu - you're NOT talking about the 3rd gens ARE you?

NDGeist - you blew up a 3rd gen twice? the only way taht's possible is with a 100 shot of nos at redline. and if you're doing that, you're an idiot to begin with.

genocide - that's YOUR opinion of course. don't confuse it with being a FACT.

There are much better used cars available IMO

I'd be lookin at used maximas and my personal favorite, a '99 or '00 Contour SVT. Dependability, reliability...
