So I assume this will be priced somewhere around $325? If it is $325, 65-75W and boosts consistently to 5GHz on all cores it might be worth considering if you already have a socket compatible board. If not its pretty disappointing and im not sure what tiny market segment they are targeting?

LOL, by envelope pushing, do you mean ignoring the (power) envelope?

In some ways yeah, I do! I'd rather see weird and interesting CPUs, instead of the 5 years of boring safe quad cores at reducing power consumption.

if intel picks some good pieces that don't need high voltage to reach 5GHz, the power shouldn't be that high (ofc not coming close the 10nm or the new ryzens), but not 200W

interesting times

Is this one going to require a water chiller too?

Probably. Honestly it's not a good idea to run a 9900k at a PL1 of 160-165W without an AiO or a huge HSF. This thing is going to exceed the 9900k's PL2 rating of 210W (4.7-5.0 GHz) with a 5.0 GHz static OC. 210W minimum, probably closer to 220-230W.

Nothing safe about the 9900KS.

We already know how fast intel can just add a few more cores to their lineup without changing anything else and be the fastest again.
Nothing wrong with making another boatload of cash from this SKU until then.

Photo of the VRM's on the motherboards after an experience with this cpu.
Yeah this is really ironic since the new boards for the ryzen 3series feature fans on the VRMs ,something that hasn't been seen for years.

I have a (bad) feeling Intel got something in their pocketses, precious.
A new stepping of hand collected 9900K from wafers chosen by gold finger of Donald Trump !

They better bring that 16 core RO stepping Core i9 9960 BE already

I wonder if this whole lineup will get a price cut? It would be very overpriced compared to PCIe Gen4 AM4 platform, although having some advantages (more mem. channels).

It's also dual channel though?

The X570 motherboards do NOT (as a rule) feature fans on the VRMs.

If you're going to hate on AMD, which you seem to love doing, at least be accurate.

Those fans seem to be on the motherboard chipset, not the VRMs. The VRMs on my X370 Taichi could probably handle an R9 3900x, no problem.

Also, don't expect Intel to "just add more cores". That's what 10c Comet Lake is going to be; the 3900X will kill it. If AMD launches a 16c Matisse at the same time, it'll be even worse for Intel.

Ah yes, the 9900KFC!

Mmm mmm, finger licken good.

Just how many 9900K chips do we need anyway? 9900K, 9900KFC, 9900KS, what next?

Safe bet this one will need water cooling? Could be a great option maybe for someone with a locked motherboard? Shame Intel hasn't released a non k 9900. Then again if you got exposed vrms on the motherboard which is common of a locked motherboard then there is a good chance your not gonna be running either one of these ? Looks like water cooling is a must at least on either chip.

Might be already pushing my luck with my i7 8700 non k on this Asrock Z370M pro 4 but at least my case is a wind tunnel and haven't ran into any throttling with it yet.

Desperation from Intel or not AMD really looks to have something great coming about and good on them. Its certainly time for anyone thinking of doing a new build to wait.

don't make 9900K worse than it is
until today it was by far the most power efficient chip within its power limit (95W) with 8C/16T and can be pushed way above
it is still and it looks the way will be the most powerful 8C/16T chip when oced, with a price (power)
and 10C comet lake wont be a 3900X killer, but It wont be far away
Intel can do wonders with their 14nm, just today it was the breakpoint of change if they don't deliver

Nothing weird or interesting about this garbage, just adjust the binning and increase some PCU MSR to blow through the power limit. Literally intern level work.
