Are my volts too high?

I'm just putting together a new computer, most of it's done and I put windows 2000 on this morning.

It's an athlon 1800 on an Asus A7V333 and works fine except instead of 12V I'm getting 13.5V (according to Probe, the software which watches temps and volts), or 13V through the bios.

I'm not sure whether I should be worried about this or not. It sets an alarm off though so I guess I should try and do something......

Just not sure what

Does anyone have any ideas?

Oh yeah and its a 300W PSU (AMD approved)

I had this problem on an ASUS A7V a couple years back. The 12V feeds are for the drive motors mainly, where an overage should not be critical, although it could increase the heat output on some hard drives. The processor and other more delicate components have voltage regulator circuits, and they work off the 5V power feeds anyway. I just reset the threshold on my probe. I later sold that board, but I know that it hasn't had any problems.

you are still within a 10% tolerance zone which should be safe for most drives and the voltage may tend to come down as you add more drives later.

I have the same problem with the same MOBO. It reads 13.5, also the Probe Utility does not read the speed of the CPU fan (I made sure the fan is working and the cable is connected. ) So I am not going to worry about that though it is strange why the utility wont recognize the fan speed. I have a 450W power supply.

The OS is win2K with all latest patches.

There are couple of other problems too...

Also at times the CD ROM drive stops working, it gives the following message in a window - 'You have ejected a device/it is unsafe to eject a device etc' and the drive disappears - when I restart the comp it does appear again. Any idea why this is happening, any chance that this is connected with power supply?

Also there is a problem with the monitor - it starts flickering at times...the video card is ATI Radeon 8500 LE OEM from Sapphire. I always use 75Hz as the refresh rate. The flickering is not very heavy, but enough to give you eye strain. Is this a monitor issue (Sylvania F97 - 19inch) or something else? Any idea? FYI, The drivers are latest and greatest.

A tad high.

Your MB and devices will/should regulate the voltages beyond your PS to what they need, but it's stil best to give the volts they expect.

Can you RMA your PS? Or you can just order a new one for like 10-20$ shipped from many places.

If at all possible, get a real volt-meter and check the 12V line yourself. The BIOS and Software volt readings come from the same source, so if one's off, they're both off.

Good luck!!!
