Are stock Intel fans good?

I plan to do no overclocking so is the fan that comes with a 2.4B P4 good enough, or should I opt for something else. If so what.

Intel fans are the best. You'd be hard pressed to find a better cooler for the P4 than what it comes with. It's impossible to find one that performs as well and is as quiet. Intel heatsink/fans are absolutely fantastic!

I think that the only fan that is better and quieter for P4 is the Zalman CNPS6500A-AlCu which is at
20dB absolutely noiseless. But the price is very very high. But I also can say that Intel original
fans are the best if you don't care about absolutely noiseless PC.

Coming from Athlons where I used Alphas and Swiftechs it was hard for me to install a new CPU and actually USE the stock HSF. I never even bought Athlons with the retail (POS) HSF. I couldn't beleive how quiet the stock Intel HSF was so I quickly installed Motherboard Monitor so I could check the temps. The CPU was idleing in the high 20C range! (I live in SoCal, it was December, ambient was probably 70F at the time) I leaned on it with Prime95 and the temps maxed out in the mid 40's. This was on a 1.6 Willemette, no OC. I was conditionally sold until I got a Northwood and OCed it. Even then the temps maxed out around 50C. I don't see how you can beat this HSF unless you're doing some real high Vcore OCs.

I'm not trying to be an ass here, but do you really think Intel would package a HSF with a processor that isn't good enough?

"hard-pressed" to find a better HSF? Alpha's PAL8942 is awesome The retail stock HSF is fine if you aren't planning to OC though.

Actually if you look at any P4 hsf roundup the stock cooler kicks butt of anything out there in term of performance/noise. In terms of raw performance alone it's only bested by 1/2 degree and if FINE for overclocking. I'm using mine on a 533mhz overclock rock solid. Idle, 26 load 39

Any hardcore P4 nut would prefer the PAL8942 over the Intel stock HSF. With it's copper base, increased surface, and larger diameter (and CFM) fan, it kicks most other HSF's asses. The Intel HSF is fine, but the PAL8942 is better, and among the best for the P4.

Well, I run 2.624 @ 1.7v and stock Intel hsf and still get temps below 50c with a case temp of 35c so you can oc nicely with it.
Still, if I had money to spare I would have gotten the Alpha, it IS better but not as much as the Athlon version (8045) is compared to AMDs stock hsf.

Well, that depends on which stock AMD retail HSF you got. Some of the XP's have Dynatron skived fin HSF's and are pretty decent. The PAL8942 is larger than the PAL8045, making it pretty much the ultimate HSF
