Are tower fan any good?

I keep seeing tower fans and I was wondering if they push a lot of air... it doesn't look as effective as a traditional fan, but it would save some space because it really rotates on itself.

I am looking at getting one for my apartment. Any recommendaitons on which one to get? Which one pushes the most air and is quite? What about any with a purifier on it.

I've been around them from time to time. They never impressed me as effective. I haven't owned one though...

My parents got one from Sears. It's pitiful. It's fairly tall and large yet the wind it puts out is prob the equivalent of a 8" fan. it is VERY weak. Stick to the traditional round one and make sure you get a good round one.

they have one in the office upstairs, its aight, maybe for a small room if you dont want alot of papers flying around

I was hoping to hear something good about them. I bought two to test them out and they both are noisy, but do an OK job. If anyone knows of a great one that will throw some air quietly I would appreciate it.
