One of those little perks about being a parent.

One of the perks of being any authority figure. There is reasoning behind every decision, but it is generally not appropriate to explain that reasoning every time you make a demand.
I find it disturbing and juvenile that parents would see themselves as "buddies", although I have seen this in a few families I am acquainted with. My parents always have been and always will be my parents - I may be friends with them in addition, but that does not change their status in my life, their authority over me (to an extent, this is diminishing as I age), or my respect for them.
Hazing in itself is a barbaric practice, subject to excess and mob mentality. That adults would sanction such behavior, as well, is despicable.
There is nothing wrong with parents being friends with their children; however, when this overrules the parents' role as role model and disciplinarian, it has become something inappropriate.

My wife and i are a good balance. she always tries to explain her decisions to our kids. sometimes tho kids require a NO w/o reasons given. those times are left up to me.

It's not about the beer or even the animal entrails, it's about the love.

I am sure they did; from what I've heard about you, Jean, you've been an amazing mother.

Haha, awesome. I can't wait to be a parent... an excuse to be grumpy all the time.
lol! i wouldn't try to smoke up at home and expect my parents to be cool with it, even though I know for a fact that at least one of my parents has done it themselves in the past - i know their attitude would still be the same. so i just don't do that here.Originally posted by: Geekbabe

I wasn't "grumpy" silly I just tended to get a tad upset over things like clouds of pot smoke billowing up the vent in my bedroom and the kid trying to tell me that their cheap doobage was incense
