Are you buying Haswell?

Reviews are popping up and you've seen some overclocks. I'm wondering if you'll upgrade or skip this all together since it doesn't have that big of a IPC increase.

Poll will follow

If I buy a notebook in the next year, it will probably be a haswell. I'm not sure I'll need one though, so I voted no. My 2700K @ 5Ghz is enough for me now, looks like Haswell would just be an expensive sidegrade.

At least this time there's enough IPC headroom to make it interesting though. With Ivy, I went through a few 3770Ks until giving up. I just couldn't get past 4.6Ghz without crazy crazy heat, even under my H100. IDC shows me that if I de-lid, that wouldn't be such an issue, but I don't really want to do that. If my rig died today though, I'd grab Hasser, clock her to 4.4Ghz or so, and call it a day. Whereas I would personally rather have SB than lidded Ivy.

My birthday itch to play with it says buy. My brain says $650 to buy a 4770k and an Asus z87 deluxe isn't worth it since i have a 3770k and a Z87 deluxe. Someone convince me again not to buy lol

Already ordered. However, my Q6600 machine has been having crash problems for months and I think I hear the hard drive starting to fail. My only questions was K or non-K.

It's almost certainly a huge waste of money for you personally.

This is a great thing for :

(A)- Entirely new build
(B)- Someone with a locked SB who want a new build to OC on
(C)- Mobile/notebook models
(D)- Users on Socket 1156 and older, and 1366 quadcore users or 1366 hexes who are really worried about power usage could consider it, looking at the great encoding performance on Haswell. Seems almost like a 4Ghz Haswell i7 should theoretically encode about as well as a 3.2Ghz-3.6Ghz 9xx Hex, all while offering better gaming performance, overall IPC, feature set, and using half the power or less.
(E)- Anyone on S775/AM2/AM2+/etc that is dying for more power and has been holding out forever.

Better monitor, larger/faster SSD, new videocard, better soundcard/receiver+speakers are all better upgrades if you got $650 to burn. It wouldn't be $650 though since you'd sell your old parts.

I am disappointed Intel is still using TIM. I can't see myself delidding since that would wipe out the resale value of the CPU. I'd rather upgrade the videocard. I want to see what the average overclocks on Haswell are on air.

Well I wouldn't upgrade if I were B. A goes along with D and E. C is a given.

No. Looks like a decent upgrade from my 2600k but not worth the hassle and the extra cash it would require. Getting older and more patient really helps cut down on the impulse purchases.

I am pretty sure, if there were plenty of Haswell-designed apps, this would have been a no-brainer, really. Intel shot itself in the foot, for not giving $$$ to the devs for this to happen, on launch date. Instead, we are observing dozen of reviews, that basically are killing the Intel sales.

Yes, even though it's disappointing for a tock going from an E8400 to a 4770 will be a substantial upgrade.

I dunno. Ivy was mostly a sidegrade for most overclockers with Sandy already (delidding aside of course), and it sold fine. Intel is just moving along without caring much about the enthusiast sector, which is pretty small. Haswell moves IGP and mobile along nicely, which is where their focus obviously is at the moment.

The only reason I'm tempted is to have more SATA3 Intel ports on the motherboard. A good quality controller is about as much as a CPU/mobo combo.

I would like to have it as a laptop, if I could find a decent one that meets my long list of requirements.

I'm not at all impressed by the reviews so far, but my current laptop has an Arrandale processor, so it's going to be a big upgrade regardless.

Definitely my next notebook will be Haswell based.

 My wish list for my next notebook.

GT3 or GT3e graphics
under 4 pounds
no ODD
room for 7mm 2.5" drive + mSATA/NGFF
higher resolution than 1366x768
decent battery life
affordable (can mean $500 or $1000, depending on my budget at the time)
