I already have an ipad, so I'd need a compelling reason to upgrade. For me, I don't see that reason yet (not to say there won't be one in the future though).

It's easy enough to forget that not everyone wants to deal with the hassle of selling then buying again.

I myself didn't want that, and I struggled for a whole month before I could let my iPad 1 go since I honestly couldn't find any reason to upgrade it. Even up until this moment, I still can't find a reason for an iPad 2, but it is pretty much guaranteed that whatever will come in the next few months with regards to iOS 5, iPad 2 and maybe iPhone 5 will be the highlight, and I'd hate to miss out on some awesome new feature just because my hardware doesn't support it.

Even if there is no new feature, I guess the enhanced performance of the better hardware would show its benefits as I usually try to treat my iPad like my computer.

I'll be picking one up, but I haven't figured out which one yet. I'm thinking 64W, 32G or 64G. $120 for really wanting a GPS makes me cringe though :\.

I have the 1st gen that I hardly use. No need to get a 2nd gen I'll hardly use.
The camers(s) don't interest me. I have a digital camera. The new thinner
doesnt interest me. The 1st gen wasnt THAT fat to cause complaints.
Only way I could see 1st gen ipad owners going to the 2nd is if they were like $100 new.
And you could sell your 1st gen for close to what you paid.
I'd get an apple macbook air way before going the ipad route...again.

I'm ordering one at release on Apple's website. I work 3rd shift, so I'll miss the retail launches, and my 13 hour weekend shifts will kinda prohibit me from using it during the weekend anyway.

I skipped the 1st gen iPad, but recently was able to use one long enough to know that it'd fit the needs I'd buy it for, so I'm picking up the more powerful 2nd gen. I would have liked a higher resolution screen, perhaps, but it's not a deal breaker if they keep it as a higher quality IPS.

If I had a 1st gen for several months or more, making the move to upgrade would be a harder choice.

Pehraps I'm not going to be getting one soon The store's webpage for me is still coming soon, and from what I hear there's a Ships in 3-5 days note already. It'll be Monday by the time I can get to a retail store, so I'm sure they'll all be sold out by then (at all retailers).

Edit: There it goes. Placed an order, but I couldn't find a way to up the shipping to 2-day. I have to head out shopping on Monday/Tuesday anyway, so I can see what the stores have then. If I happen to find one in store, I'll just cancel the online order or return it/refuse deliver if it's shipped.

Just got up and placed an order for the 16gb white /w cover as well. I cant believe the shipping is already at 3-5 days. Still it's better than trying to buy at a retail store and dealing with the madness.

I think the 3-5 day stuff was default from the get-go. I read of people ordering at 3:30 EST and they still had the 3-5 day ship times for every iPad. I'm thinking either (1) they stuck that as a default just in case they had too many orders, and will ship early, or (2) they never planned on shipping it Friday anyway and are instead waiting till Monday or later to ship.

Either way, if my actual delivery date is Thursday or later I'll probably just play hunt around locally then return/refuse/cancel the online order.

Since I already got a Nook Color to use as a tablet, getting an iPad would make me a dead man walking in my house. Can only spend hundreds of dollars so many times.

What I might do is to get the HDMI adapter so that I can use it with my iPod Touch 4g.

Still, if some sort of Tivo streaming comes to the iPad, I might reconsider it.

Because you know for sure that money will go back into another purchase right away, plus you have to layer up more money on top to get a comparable model.

Unless your goal is just to push the iPad 1 away, then this thread shouldn't even be on your to-read list.

I'm glad I held out now since I'll bet supplies are strained at this point. It will make avoiding the sense of fake perceived 'need' go away.

My biggest issue with this device is figuring out how it would fit into my day to day routine and unfortunately I don't know of anyone who owns one that I could borrow for a few days. Anyone know what the return policy is? If I know I have 2-4 weeks to decide then maybe I can talk myself into it...

no. i have the original.

the cameras and form factor aren't enough for me to get the ipad 2. i definitely wouldn't be toting around the ipad 2 and taking it out of its case to snap photos. i'd still rather snap photos/videos with my iphone.
