Should have picked Iceland. I know a guy going soon and thanks to their currency destruction it's costing him very little.

Greece will never implode. This is typical stuff that has happened for decades. Greece has gone through a lot of stuff over the years from Turkish occupation, German occupation, Juntas and the people are very combative when it comes to the government. It doesn't help that they spend a higher percentage of their GDP than the US on military stuff because of Turkey and all the screwed up countries in the Balkans. Its a very complex issue and most of you like to read articles and understand but you really don't. I'm Greek and have visited 8 Greece 8 times and its a beautiful country with a laid back approach of doing things.

Spain is imploding now.

This is so much fun

It's probably worth noting that the Spain is one of the most fiscally responsible countries in the EU, and were running surpluses prior to the recession. They primary reason they are in trouble is because they can't print Euros or deevaluate their currency.

It's not typical. Greece is in dire straights.

Why do you think they made the news?

Hint: It's not for the Parthenon.

Um, Greece is part of NATO. I don't think they have to worry about someone attacking them.

The Greeks are retarded. Now, some people are reviving World War II reparation claims at a time when they're facing economic collapse. What a convenient time to bring up this matter. Thank god I'm not a Greek citizen.

Not anymore since their deficit for the year is way over the EU ceiling of 3%. Well, you can't have it both ways. Spain can't expect to reap the benefits of the Euros in good times and then avoid its responsibilities in bad times.

You don't know the history between Turkey and Greece. Like I said, all you guys do is sit on the computer, read excerpts on nytimes.com, and then you guys know everything about every subject. Greece will be ok. They've been through occupations and still survived. This is a small blip.

I don't know what NATO would do, actually, in the event of a Turkish invasion of Greece, considering both Turkey and Greece are members.

I don't see Turkey attacking Greece in the foreseeable future. The Turks have more things to worry about (such as their Kurdish minority) than invading Greece.

Although being Greek by default makes you an expert on their finances, just as all Americans are expert on the American economy, this "blip" doesn't seem to be considered a blip by many people watching the situation including, of great note, actual Greeks who live there and are rioting/losing their incomes.

And please, be wary of hyperbole. Nobody has said or even hinted that Greece will literally collapse. The country will still exist, its borders intact. Nobody is invading anybody. When I said implode I was pointing out how dire this situation is for their economy. And it is dire, and of that I presume you don't deny.

Pakistan will never implode. This is typical stuff that has happened for decades. Pakistan has gone through a lot of stuff over the years from Indian occupation, British occupation, Juntas and the people are very combative when it comes to the government. It doesn't help that they spend a higher percentage of their GDP than the US on military stuff because of India and all the screwed up countries in South Asia. Its a very complex issue and most of you like to read articles and understand but you really don't. I'm Pakistani and have visited 8 Pakistan 8 times and its a beautiful country with a laid back approach of doing things.

All hail the Greeks, the Pakistanis of Europe! Their excuses ring just as hollow.

It also has outsized pensions and an entitlement mentality. Let Greece fail, don't give it any loans. Let the people of Greece suffer for not agreeing to cut spending and balance their budget.

Im agreeing with Skoorb and the others. Greece must fall, so that the rest of the lazy losers of the world realize what happens when they try to live on other peoples wealth.

I say let Greece implode, so that US politicians can show their constituents "Look what happened to Greece..." and get unpopular debt management policies passed

why are some of you looking forward to another country failing?
how does that benefit us? how will it effect the global economy? how will it effect the usd/euro?

(asking a question, not being confrontational)

That's like watching the crack addict or smoker next to you fall over dead. Sure it sends a point, but anyone listening to reason wouldn't be next in line in the first place.

It will not change anything over here. We are moths to the flame.
