[Cynicism]

After nearly a decade of computer use since I was a pre-teen, I am now giving in and will use a Firewall/Anti-Virus program after debacles with BS such as xupiter/BO, etc.

What's the best all purpose program that you guys use?

Nortan AntiVirus works wounders. and is about as main stream as them come. always have new Defs up a day after a new virus is out.

and Zone Alarm - IMO is teh best firewall. teh free version is great and teh full version is better

I never use one. Don't have no need for one if your not using Outlook for email and you know where your downloading stuff from, and I download stuff that would make some of you guys drool

How do you figure I'm gonna get hit? In the last 4 years I might have had AV software on my machine for a few months and its a pain so I just quit using it. Firewall software just makes you paranoid so I bought a router with nat built in to stop them also.

Because everyone I know that adopted the same philosophy eventually got hit by a virus...including myself! You can never be 100% sure of every download, every floppy, or even every CD you get.

As for NAT, it's very good, but it won't protect you from trojans or spyware that'll connect from your machine to a remote server. It's also great to restrict a program's access to the net whenever you want.

Just some friendly advice here, you're free to take it or toss it

F-Secure. Most of popular anti-virus programs use its engine.

In nearly ten years, I've never been affected with a trojan, virus, etc, and I D/L more than alot of people.
Were I to be infected with a trojan, I won't mind as I have backups of nearly everything.

What annoys me more than anything are these BS programs like xupiter that I can't control - Will Zonealarm control the automatic installation of software like this?

You can stop things like that from auto-installing in your IE settings
