I was excited to get this board until I had to restart my comp 100 times to get the right OC.

It wasn't because it's hard to overclock an i5-2500k to 4.4ghz, that's extremely easy. It's hard because asrock makes it hard with their buggy board.

From buggy UEFI bios screwing with the keyboard/mouse, to ram not getting properly recognized, to the biggest showstopper bug I encountered in their v1.10 bios today: spread spectrum.

DON'T DARE set spread spectrum to disabled or your computer won't fucking boot. ASrock wants to make sure spread spectrum is enabled so that it can oscilate the frequency of the busses in the system very slightly to reduce EMI emissions. It is recommended to disable this setting during overclock: lets HOPE AUTO does just that. That's how I got this board to work, a hope and a prayer.

Asrock: fuck you, I'm not buying your shit, buggy boards ever again.

I will stick with Asus from now on, they don't provide just half a package.

need support? just ask them on their official support forums, they reply right away, http://forums.tweaktown.com/asrock/46238-bios-options-extreme3-gen3-not-explained-manual.html

again: fuck you asrock

Dang, that sucks. I ordered this board and it will finally be delivered tomorrow after waiting for it to come back in stock because I ordered it when it was "In Stock" :roll eyes:

What version bios are you running? Just curious: did you flash to your version or was it that way out of the box. Edit: nm, saw that you are running 1.10. Damn.

I am bookmarking this thread. Good luck!!!

Wow man sorry to hear you are having problems with it. I just installed mine today, set 45 multi, and bumped voltage to 1.35v, disabled power saving features and spread spectrum. The voltage on my ram was set to 1.67v by default so I lowered that to 1.65 and havent had any problems at all with it. I'm still using the shipping bios 1.00, tho. They might have made some changes in the newer one.

Not to mention a host of other bugs I found but don't want to list. If you buy the xtreme3 gen3 you'll have fun figuring them out yourself.

It's my own fault, I should have heeded the newegg reviews more.

I still don't understand how 1.10 has gone DOWN in quality from 1.0.... well i've got it stable and hopefully i won't have to touch the bios ever again..

Wow, too bad so many problems. My board is running great. I have owned several Asrock MB's and always have had good luck. Running i5-2500k O/C to 4.5ghz, ram O/C to 1866 from 1600 and running in d-mode with a ATI 5850 and dual monitors. Better luck with your next choice.

Did you use memory from the recommended list on the Asrock site?
Is your Power supply in good shape?

I just got my board yesterday. First thing I did was a memtest, install Win7, then I flashed the bios to 1.10. I only did some very quick testing of OC capabilities, but I was able to get it to 4.4ghz using the bios OC preset and I ran Prime95 for an hour before I shut it down. Actually, I was able to boot at 4.6ghz using the OC preset but my Prime95 temps quickly got into the mid 70s because the voltage went to 1.4.

Today I am going to do a more thorough overclock job not using the OC presets. I barely had any time last night to try it out.

I just installed mine with an i5-2500k and haven't encountered any problems. I haven't done any overclocking. Mine came with the 1.1 BIOS. Hope you can resolve your problems.

AS*Rock is the budget division of ASUS. The boards are solid, but in no way use better parts then ASUS own line.

You need to update BIOS and install latest Intel Chipset drivers,, Not the one from 2007.

hope the newer BIOS revisions fix you up. gl

ASRock Inc. is a manufacturer of motherboards, netbooks, and HTPCs, based in Taiwan and chaired by Ted Hsuu. It was established on May 10th, 2002 and invested by and subordinated to Asus. between 2002 and 2008. Since 2008, ASRock has been reassigned to Pegatron due to the reorganization of Asus.

In January 2010, Pegatron's then parent company Asustek announced a plan to spin off and to transfer its long term equity investment in Pegatron to its wholly owned subsidiary, Pegatron International Investment Co., Ltd. On June 10, 2010, Pegatron merged with Pegatron International, and Pegatron has since been the surviving spin off independent company
