I beat the game over the weekend.

This game sort of facinates me, mainly because this game was so unsuspectingly good. I loved AC2, but the new elements like the assiassin recruitment/assistance thing, mid-mission checkpoint system, easier combat and multiplayer are so good.

The funny thing is, when it was over I was kinda sad. I put a lot of time into getting most of the flags, treasures, feathers, glyphs, romulus keys and whatever else is out there and I just got lost in the world. Cheesy, but true.

Deffinitely in my top 5 of the year.

Yeah, ACB has no right to be as damn good as it is. A little something was missing from AC2 to make me want to exhaust every little bit of game out of it, but something about ACB made me want to renovate every little thing, and do every side quest. Whereas the first game had you doing the same bland thing over and over again, the second one had you mix it up, the third really made sure there was some sort of twist to each mission, so it never really got boring.

Ubisoft has a particular style of making games - make one game, then the next year put out the B-reel with the same engine and nearly the same assets, slightly improved mechanics but slightly blander, less interesting missions. See: Rainbox six vegas 1/2, Graw 1/2, Hawx 1/2, Prince of Persia, Splinter cell etc...

Except AC:B breaks the mold. Its technically better, and more interesting on top of it.

But its really a continuation of AC2. You really need to play AC2 to get the most out of it. Anyone new to the series can and should skip AC1, as its really not a great game. The story was still good, and you can make an argument for rushing through the single player and skipping anything secondary. But you need to at least play AC2.

Poor Assassin's Creed is the Rodney Dangerfield of video games, it just don't get no respect. I can't disagree that there weren't enough distinct investigation modes to keep the game fresh all the way through the storyline, although that didn't curb my enjoyment of the title. I wound up clearing all the missions despite that (even those ridiculously annoying timed assassinations) because the rewards from the investigation were often useful intelligence which made preparation for the final assassinations simple (what approach to take, which guards to eliminate, etc.).

And while you can certainly play and enjoy Assassin's Creed 2 without ever playing the original, I liked the ending of the original enough that not seeing those events would have made starting there slightly confusing and much less entertaining.

I thought the first AC was fantastic. I beat it and missed a couple of achievements, so I intend to go back to it again someday. AC2 might have been a better game but AC was more immersive to me. There was something about the environment that they just nailed. It seemed so serious, whereas AC2 was almost whimsical. They're both amazing, but for different reasons IMO.

, the third really made sure there was some sort of twist to each mission,

Getting 100% Synch on some missions is hard as balls.

Di Vinci's tank for instance took me about a dozen tries to get through it without getting hit.

game is awesome.

I don't know how you guys could get through the game over the weekend without skipping a bunch and not trying to get 100% synched! I have 7 flunky recruits that have made it to the rank of Assassin! I attended each ones virtual ceremony!

Nothing is true. All is permitted.

great game.

As a completionist I hope to have the Julius Caesar trophy/ acheivement soon. Still need lvl 50 on multiplayer and to complete the last few sequences.

Favorite trophies so far:

Clean Sweep - Kill a guard with a broom.

Needle in a haystack - kill enemy from haystack (multilayer only)

(boy was he surprised to get picked from a haystack in the last 5 seconds of the round)

Brotherhood is $35 at Best Buy this week, I may have to pick it up.

I've been thinking the same thing. I'm torn between this and Fallout: NV (also on sale), but I think I'll wait for the inevitable Fallout GOTY edition with all DLC.

That's my plan as well. I bought Fallout3 when it was new but didn't really get around to playing it until all the DLC was out anyway. Might as well get it all included for the same price.

I picked this game up on boxing day. Will have to wait for a couple more weeks to play it though, I'm going to wait til I get back to school.

Picked it up today at Best Buy. Pretty good so far after a quick hour or so.

I've always enjoyed the Ubisoft U-play thing with their recent games, but I don't like how they set it up in AC:B. For those that don't know, a few of the achievements are also tagged as U-play goals, and you get U-play points for them. Then you can use U-play points to unlock some extra (small) content, like new armor, more weapon capacity, or even a usable dashboard theme.

Normally you can earn as many points as there are awards for the game, but in Brotherhood it takes more points to buy everything then you can earn in this one game. They kind of force you to get another of their U-play games to get some extra points if you wanted all of the Brotherhood awards. Not cool

Yeah, it appears that there are classes of things that you could only buy one of, such as outfits. I wonder if more Uplay parts are tied to the Facebook game?

Wow.

What a horrible ending.

The last hour or two of gameplay was miserable. After numerous hours of a game that I found enjoyable, suddenly they decided to change the way you play the whole damn game. Rushed from mission to mission, then they give you this stupid apple and suddenly you don't even get to play the same way you did for the previous 20 or 30 hours. I had to replay all of those apple missions several times because I wasn't even sure what the fuck I was supposed to be doing. After which, my armor was beat to hell and there was no way to repair it before heading off to the final mission.

Then the story seemingly goes to crap. I was into the story at the end of AC2 but now I have no idea where it's going or what the point is. After AC2 it seemed like some kind of ancient technology that the whole story was about rediscovering to protect the world from a disaster, now it almost seems to be point to some kind of crazy religion with an imminent "awakening" of some kind of evil.

All in all still a decent game, but all of that on top of the still frequently frustrating free running that sends you leaping down five stories instead of jumping on the chimney you were staring at, they better do something impressive for the final game.

I'm liking the game, but it seems much more buggy and slow than AC2 was. When I'm running the frame rate is constantly dipping causing a pretty constant hitch in the action. This wasn't in AC2. I also see very often guards and such just appear completely out of nowhere in front of me. The NPC spawning is incredibly broken compared to the last game. I see people disappear and reappear all the time. There's also a really odd haze that takes up the top quarter or so of the screen which seems to be some sort of bloom effect. But it doesn't go away during cut scenes and it looks very odd.

I dunno... I like some of the changes in the game, but the fundamentals feel like they've taken several steps backwards. It looks exactly like the last one, but runs a lot worse.

....

Agree 100%, I just finished it a few days ago and had the same feelings of frustration the last hour of the game. The ending cinematic made no sense to me at all either, no clue what/why it happened the way it did.

The game was overall pretty engaging though; I even played a few hours after I beat it to build Rome to 100%.

However, dont see myself replaying this one at all.

Finally got to start it last night. I like it so far, except for the frame rate problems, and a few other minor glitches. I found a group of guards once that were just standing there, and I could keep assassinating them, just to have them stand right back up.

I'm having bad luck recruiting assassins. Usually the icon disappears before I even get there, but even if I do get there in time, the citizen keeps getting kicked off a cliff or into the water.
