Are they system crashes or game crashes? What does Event Viewer say?

Think I have event viewer disabled for most things. Game crashes I believe, app just says not responding. I do see an absolute shit ton of errors with this NVstreamsvc for the Shield. Which I don't have, nor is the 500 series even compatible. Disabled that now. Will see how stability is.

Did notice my SLI was fucking disabled lol. Must have been from the new drivers. Figured my poor performance was to be expected based on people's reactions with Titans etc. Now that I have SLI enabled, solid 60fps with NV vsync, max settings, 2xmsaa @ 1080p in Havana. Guess this rig still has some life left as long as it's played on the tv, which I prefer anyway.

If you have performance issues, turn TXAA off and the game will run fine. Please keep in mind that TXAA is very GPU intensive - I figured most folks would be well aware of this, but I guess not. It is more intensive than MSAA and is near SSAA in terms of pushing your GPUs. So turn it off and your performance in AC4 will be fine.

Game runs like a champ for me, using the latest driver released 2 days ago by nvidia. I stress, however, that TXAA won't be usable 100% of the time especially if you're at a higher than 1080p resolution.

I am LOLing at you with your GTX780 advising to turn off TXAA. I have only a GTX 660 TI and run TXAAx2 and most other settings maxxed out. What else is your graphics card for but enhancing your image quality? Now don't tell me your 780 has problems with TXAA, because that I won't buy

Edit: With the exception of my GTX 660 TI, my system is VERY old. The game runs decent!! I cannot AT ALL stand jaggies, I rather sacrifice 20FPS and play without jaggies than constant 60+ FPS but shitty image quality. But that's just me. I have the impression that AC IV is not exactly a graphics card killer. Unless you play crazy resolutions (which I don't), my 660 TI is plenty for this game.

Edit2: I would say that TXAA (even at "only" 2x) is among the best AA methods employed I have seen in games in the last years. Only exception maybe FarCry3 where I down-sampled using a 3rd party tool. However, the downsampling tool wont't run w/ Win8.1 otherwise I would probably use this for AC IV.

I turned off TXAA just mainly because I want my 60 FPS! Right now, I'm about 60-70% of the time hitting 60 FPS with it off. I really don't like the look of TXAA, makes everything look softer... I'm playing @ 1680x1050...

Rocking a GTX 780, i7-4770k @ 4.2GHz, 16GB, SBZ, 1TB EVO.

How do I use mortar shot?

Hold Q think it was.

One question I had for others that are further along. On the map when you see the treasure chests, it says money: low or medium and such.

My question is for later on if you go back to one of those, is it higher lever? or is it the same?

Personally I am liking this one, for some reason AC3 did not seem to grab me as much as the previous one.
Performance wise, I have it optimized through the Geforce Experience and so far looks awesome and have not noticed any slowdowns or tearing

One thing that is annoying me to know end is I have the subtitles on and I had the randomness of capitalized words... they don't make any sense at times

I have to agree with flexy here. TXAA is AMAZING in AC IV.

At first I was like "meh," because I really hate blur, but the blur is really for the most part undetectable in game. The only way to see it, is in comparison shots.

The benefits far outweigh the cons though, as TXAA COMPLETELY eliminates all jaggies and movement shimmering effects. Another benefit is that it significantly reduces the effect of the color filters applied in the AC games, making the game look much cleaner and clearer.

I can now understand why NVidia refers to it as "film style" AA..

Thanks!

Did anyone figure out how to sell materials (cloth, wood, metal)? The harbor master only wants rum and sugar. Once I sold all of that, the sell button is greyed out?

I have not look in selling them myself, but I know all those items are used in upgrade the Jackdaw

I had looked and you can sell the metal, wood, etc when you are at a harbor master, so if you don't need them then you can sell them

Looks like there's a bug with the god rays. If you have the god ray setting to high, going into eagle vision sets it to low for some reason..

AHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

That would explain a lot.

edit:

Also wanted to say that I'm really enjoying this game. Sea battles, piracy, usual free running hijinks. Great. Then you get dumped back in the office to run an errand. Wat?! Way to ruin the game ubisoft.

Cannot stand James Kid's voice either.

I'm running a 780ti and I had to turn god rays off and drop AA down to FXAA just to keep my frames somewhat smooth. 1080p btw.

I actually dig that part, and it's really quick in any case.

I'm pleasantly surprised by this game. I didn't think it would be good since I thought 3 was pretty awful. But so far it's a lot of fun. Story is decent, and not as dragged out as 3's was. I didn't expect them to update the graphics as much as they did, but it looks great. Combat is better too. And I love some of the environments.

Still haven't found the best settings for my 7850. Wish I could try that TXAA you guys are talking about. Right now I'm on mostly high settings w/ FXAA and usually stay above 30+ FPS...

I'm loving this game. I haven't even touched the main quest for a couple of hours. Mainly been pirating the open seas.

And I actually don't mind the real world as much as I thought I would. I like that it's mostly optional, and as much as I didn't care too much for Desmond, it's nice to see the aftermath to his story.

One thing I don't like is the damn travel time for some of the shipping quest. 5+ HOURS!? Wtf.

I just have to hope they release a driver that optimizes the graphics a little better. I'm not expecting huge fps gains, but having it more stable would be great.

If you're an SLI user, might want to check out these beta drivers, as they have an updated SLI profile for AC4..

Link

Tried it myself and the game is definitely noticeably smoother.

Really enjoying this game. Very good looking, and I like the naval part more than I thought I would. Personally I didn't really care for it all that much in AC3 and that's about when I stopped playing that one, but given that there's so much more to do in your boat I really enjoy it. I think my biggest issue going forward is how much stuff there is to collect for little reward. I'm not sure what the animus fragments or messages are for, and frankly it just adds more crap to the map. Other than that, I'm enjoying myself.

The animus fragments are just collectables from what I can tell, but the messages in the bottles tells a story once you grab them all, I have not read them all yet waiting to get them all first

Turn off vsync in game and force adaptive through the driver. You'll get a little tearing but the game should run much better with everything maxed.

<----- Running a 780Ti too at 1920x1200 and FR is almost always above 60

The weakest link of all AC games has been the "future" part. Totally breaks immersion and the devs could have achieved the exact same thing with some relatively short cutscenes. The "fun" part of all AC games is running around in some historical setting causing mayem and climbing over everything in sight. Its not running around as some douche in the future. It seems like the DEVs realized this when developing AC:BF, as the "future" parts have almost none of the detail that the historical parts have. Its almost like you can see that they allocated 99% of their budget to the historical part and 1% to the future part.

Picked this game up cheap on Amazon; I was holding off because of performance concerns, but I couldn't pass up $30 for a game I was willing to buy at full price. And I was pleasantly surprised that it runs well with everything maxed out at 1080P on a GTX680. I had my concerns after reading that other people were experiencing performance issues, but I haven't had any yet. I'm using SMAA because I cannot stand the blur that FXAA or TXAA cause; SMAA blurs the image too, but less so (and for some asinine reason all the traditional MSAA modes also apply FXAA, so they're blurry too). But with the latest drivers and patched game, I'm getting performance in the 45-60 FPS range fairly consistently; consistent enough that it never feels choppy or sluggish.

I'm only a couple missions into the game; I'm playing it with the wife and she doesn't typically play action games, but she insisted because she loves pirates. It's great fun, and for once, I actually was grateful to have a built-in tutorial level so she could get the hang of movement. The free-running still has a tendency to cause you to randomly climb trees or narrow doorways, which is a little bit ridiculous in the middle of a chase, but so far I appreciate the addition of more cover areas and the subtle changes in combat. And the water shaders; ooooooh. It looks pretty crappy while you're swimming on the surface, but if you step back and appreciate it from any other angle, it's the best water I've ever seen in a game. And I haven't even gotten to the sailing bits yet (minus the opening chapter, technically). Overall, I'm impressed.

This game has really annoying 'mouse smoothing' active. Is there any way to disable it ?
