but you probably won't be able to use PhysX (which is basically useless in this game anyway as it only applies to a smoke effect that is not terribly noticeable and kills performance).

After the latest patch, it appears PhysX performance has improved. I can now run it with no performance decrease in towns. There are also four PhysX settings where there used to be three.

I'm using a dedicated card though. I wouldn't run PhysX on a rendering card in this game..

A massive patch was released yesterday, fixing a whole bunch of issues. Since the patch, I've noticed more even thread usage on my CPU when playing. Three threads still get the majority of the load, but not as much as they did before the patch.

So the game definitely runs smoother for me. I wonder if Ubisoft turned on DX11 multithreading, which could explain the better CPU usage?

Also, I've noticed that the PhysX smoke effects look much better, which was in the change log:

################################################## ##############################
Ubisoft Entertainment
Assassin's Creed® IV Black Flag v1.06
################################################## ##############################
Added 2 new multiplayer maps
Added Apex particles for Freedom Cry specific weapons
Guild of Rogues DLC support
Increased the number of global events
Improvements in Apex particles
Minor online fixes

I really enjoyed this game. I think it's my favorite out of all of the AC games to date. My only complaint (besides it ending) is that the HUD was left burned into my plasma...first game that's happened with. It's only noticeable on very bright screens, but still annoys me. Need to leave pixel flipper running for a few nights I guess (one night seems to have helped a little but it's still there, mostly the health bar).

Hello Gamers
I DLd AC2 a while back and I just couldnt get into it as the controls while using my KB were almost impossible for me to get used to.

My question is: are the KB controls easy to use for Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag?? I really would like to try this great looking game out so can someone help a brotha out? =-)

Thanks

Others may disagree, but I strongly suggest you invest in a wireless 360 controller with a USB dongle. You can just buy the dongle is you already have a 360 controller: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wire...dp/B00E0OB7MW/

Or buy bother together (the price is a little higher than normal right now for some reason): http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox...dp/B004QRKWKQ/

Should have turned the HUD off. Think it's a much more enjoyable experience imo. I would just turn on the minimap on missions. Be nice if they had a toggle button for us plasma users.

I strongly prefer m/kb still for most games, but there are some that just work better with a controller. AC series are some of those games.

That's the good thing about being a hardcore pc gamer. You have choices, no reason to use m/kb for everything. Certainly don't use m/kb or xbox controller for racing games when I have a G27.

Hey! thanks for the replies...but are the controls just like the other Assassin's Creed games or is it doable with a KB and mouse combo? Thx. again!

Hindsight is 20/20 for the HUD issue. Pixel flipper is helping, but it will take time to wash it away completely I think. That said, I don't understand why it's so hard to have a transparency slider for HUDs given all the emphasis, especially on Steam, for big-screen gaming. They must realize that many big-screens are plasmas.

I agree with your second point at kb/m vs controller, and that this series falls into the latter camp.

@ Atomic, great comment about mouse/keyboard w/AC4. It can be a pain in the ass, esp when waiting on character reaction to simple moves, like running to a chest and stopping just short for interact option to appear. This too can be mastered though.

I love this game! Full tilt settings bring a new level if realism, makes me want to buy a boat and find a hurricane. Awesome break from land routines. One if the best games in years

Holy moly this game is just not good. I am a huge AC fan - I have played all of them including Liberation on the Vita. Liberation was just outright terrible, but AC4 is pretty bad as well.

They went way overboard on the sailing, imo (which I know is a stupid thing to say - it's a freaking pirate game afterall). It's truly amazing the world they have created out on the sea - the area is massive and dynamic. There is lots to do, but the naval battles are so repetitive and so frequent that I find it difficult to even load up the game. I don't understand why there are thousands of ships in this area, when historically there may have been a few dozen. It seems that whenever I attack one ship, I end up fighting ten or twelve, or die because I ended up fighting ten or twelve. It's frustrating to say the least.

I find that I'm dying a lot more to stupid reasons in this game than in previous ones as well. I'm sure its user error but still feels not good.

In my opinion, the cities they have built and the landscape they're in are the best of the series so far - it is such a shame you don't spend any time in them! It does not feel like Assassin's Creed, and instead feels a lot more like a pure pirate game. It's missing a lot of the explicit lore, and I find I have to search harder than I should to find lore that links AC4 to the rest of the series.

Then again, I really liked AC3 in the end. So maybe I'm just a different kind of AC fan than most. Unity looks amazing though.

Edit: finally finished the game. AC4 is the worst of the series by a wide margin. The ending was outright awful. Literally the worst ending of any video game I've ever played. Ubisoft really screwed over AC fans with this one.
