What are the chances this will run well on a i7-4770 + Radeon 7870 after the next patch? I'm thinking of just getting it on XB1 on sale today.

Considering the HD7970 is the minimum required by Ubisoft to run this game, I wouldn't have purchased this as they're under no obligation to attempt to make your card run well.

But you should have decent performance under Omega Drivers + 1.3 patch already.

Finished the story about 10 mins ago. Not a bad ending.

I figured out what was bugging me about this game though. I have found that I really like the story missions, but basically every other mission is repetative and dull. For me it is not that the rules are different in story missions vs. other missions, its how well Ubisoft tells the story of what you're doing when you are not doing the main story missions. I did all of the Nostradamus Enigmas, but its basically a very dull fetch quest through riddles. I did all of the quests to build up your income (which is something I like about this game) but I didn't get anything at all out of the quests. They were chores. I did like two murder mysteries because the formula doesn't work (for me). The assassination quests were occasionally interesting, but even then I only did about a dozen because they can't hold my interest. And multiplayer.... well... interesting but should have been better integrated. Felt like an add on.

So, I think I'd have to give this game two ratings. First, for the story missions and related gameplay, I'd give it a solid 8.5/10. Second, for everything else, probably a 5, as some parts were ok. I like the direction the game is headed. Looking forward to Victorian London!

"Assassin's Creed Unity Patch 4 Is 6.7 GB, Arrives Today On Xbox One and PS4
The patch is so big because Ubisoft needed to replace entire sections of the game in an effort to improve overall frame rate."

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/assassin-s-creed-unity-patch-4-is-6-7-gb-arrives-t/1100-6424258/

Worst optimized game of 2014, hands down.

No it's clearly a great game with an amazing engine. 6.7 GB update just proves how great of an engine it is.

The patch is 6.7GBs!?

Also, Neogaf is saying it worsens pop-in and creates a shimmer/teleport effect.

This game is literally a joke. Ubisoft should be beyond embarrassed, and so should our lone defender. Wouldn't even call this polishing a turd.

This franchise is way too big to be annual.

This could have been a GTA contender. Rockstar is not compelled in the least to release their big gun every single year no matter what. And that's been working fantastically for them.

Hopefully it's finally caught on enough with Ubisoft that they'll scale back a bit. I enjoyed AC enough, AC2 I loved. AC:B and AC:R are absolute chores to play through. It's obvious how little thought went into them. I'm still in AC:R. I haven't got to AC3 yet, but it's generally panned. Reasons being Ubisoft didn't want the story to end and completely screwed this game in the process. It was enough to get the creative director to leave, I think. AC4 had more time to bake, and surprise!, people loved it.

And here we are, a technical mess that requires entire chunks of the game to be replaced and has had four major patches in about 2 months time? The next AC game had better suffer tremendously for Unity's mistakes if we as consumers want any hope of publishers caring about the polish of their products.

Absolutely. The Call of Duty "Release a game in the franchise every year, from different studios" model has done this series no favors. With Call of Duty, it's more about making sure the multiplayer component stays relevant and up to date. For a single-player focused game like Assassin's Creed, it just drags things down. Like you said, franchises like GTA and The Elder Scrolls have proven you can make buckets of money with just a few meticulously designed games every few years.

Think about it -- in the span of the the 7th console generation, GTA and TES saw only two full retail games each, which were propped up by various expansions and DLC content. Assassin's Creed saw seven retail releases on 7th gen consoles. There's no doubt that the next installments of GTA and TES will be met with great anticipation, but Assassin's Creed? Who's going to be excited about the next Assassin's Creed, after all this? At best, people are going to regard it with cautious optimism.

^ AC franchise fatigue is kicking in big time.

"Is Anyone Excited for Assassin's Creed: Victory?

Danny, Peter and Chris discuss the leaked images and setting of next year's Assassin's Creed game, but find it hard to get excited after Unity's lackluster experience. Are you excited for a Victorian-era Assassin's Creed?"
http://www.gamespot.com/videos/is-anyone-excited-for-assassin-s-creed-victory/2300-6422592/

It's very rare that we see a great sequel that comes out every 12 months because it takes A LOT longer than 12 months to make a great game. Have you ever seen Zelda/Mario, Uncharted/God of War, Starcraft /Total War , Gran Turismo or Halo sequels every 12 months? That doesn't happen. AC isn't even like COD where 3 separate teams work on the next game for 2-3 years.

The thing I've noticed with most Ubisoft games is that they come out glitchy/buggy and drop in price very quickly after launch. For that reason, by the time a Ubisoft game is fixed, it's already on sale for $20-30. It rarely makes sense to buy Ubisoft games at full price imo.

Victory - we've been able to sell the same **** to customers for years now and they still eat it up no matter what condition we release it in.

That's a game title.

Worst optimized game of 2014, hands down.

This is to confirm how much unfinished the game was, back when they initially released it.
They should consider releasing an enhanced edition, for the people who didn't buy the game yet.

You mean a fully working retail edition?

We could say that
I highly appreciate the work done by CD Project over The Witcher 1/2 EE editions, my run through the 1st was basically a bug free experience.
I whish other companies would follow the same boat for some releases, but I guess it isn't easy when they have to move and work quickly over their next project.

Spoiler Alert!
I finally finished the storyline in this game. Some parts were really good, and other times it felt like terrible story writing with major plot holes. An example, the main character gets kicked out of an Assassin's Guild for being insubordinate and unreliable, and they just let him go, even though he knows where their secret hideout is located. He then goes on a cliché drunken bender, where he goes on a killing spree to steal more alcohol, because he got kicked out of a bar.

They need someone with a higher IQ to help write their stories.

Oh, it gets better. :sneaky:

The fourth Assassin's Creed Unity patch released yesterday, and Xbox One users found that it was substantially larger than advertised. The update, which was meant to be 6.7GB, clocks in at 40GB on the Microsoft console. The only thing getting assassinated around here anytime soon is your hard drive.
http://www.destructoid.com/the-late...s-a-meager-tiny-40gb-on-xbox-one-285100.phtml

The work around is to delete the entire game, reinstall it from the disk, then the patch will be "only" 6.7GB. Yikes.

Do you have to install games now?
People champion consoles like no other, but they are starting to become PCs, really really bad ones.
