Dude, just let it go. The game bombed and is a technical disaster. It's been panned by reviewers not just for its shoddy coding and less than promised visuals with insane performance demands - but - also for bad and rehashed gameplay.

Just curious... define bombed? Unity's first week was better than Black Flag's in sales.

Are you sure your settings are maxed out? Those screenshots look way less detailed than some I've seen posted elsewhere.

Yes. Ultra High with PCSS, FXAA. I'll post some shots from the later districts. The opening districts are not much to look at.

You've lied several times in this thread, and even after being corrected you still continue to lie. Every time you lie I'm going to call you out.. Same for the others

Lied about what? The only person making up facts between us is you. I've scoured the web for objective assessments from more than 1 professional reviewer while you attack my opinions for not owning this game. You continue to come up with "facts" that are not real facts, like blaming the performance of AC Unity on AMD's FX CPUs or AMD's GPUs when in fact the game itself is broken.

Here is a 3 minute video of Unity gameplay with cut scenes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYXPvkvNTbY&list=UUTpRcNqMn1bfxKsycr4ZsvQ&index=1

FX-8350 @ 4.7Ghz vs. i5-4690K @ 4.8Ghz paired with GTX 970 @ 1500 / 7332 Mhz
Setting: Full HD 1080P + All MAX + 4xMSAA

1. FX-8350 @ 4.7Ghz is not much slower than i5-4690K @ 4.8Ghz and sometimes even faster. Therefore, we can safely conclude that FX AMD CPUs are not responsible for the atrocious performance in Unity. While the best FX CPU overclocked won't suddenly match an i7-5960X @ 4.6Ghz, it doesn't matter much since even with a 970 SLI the game can't consistently hit 60 fps, nowhere near.

2. Even with an i5-4690K @ 4.8Ghz, which is faster than your 6-core IVB, the game tanks to 30 fps and is often running at 30-45 fps at 1080P on a 970 @ 1.5Ghz! FPS is erratic and the game looks ugly. This is only at 1080P, not even talking about 1440/1600P where you continue to claim you get constant 60 fps on dual 970s, which is basically impossible.

Keep defending Unity and keep losing reputation on our forums. It's your own choice really.

That's due to console sales. You have the $330-350 XB1 ACU+Rogue bundle, and Sony only now announced the GTAV+TLoU $400 PS4 bundle. It's no wonder the XB1 AC bundle has been selling like hot cakes as it's essentially the cheapest XB1 bundle this holiday season.

Then you have the Ubisoft Pick Your Path NV bundle which basically means a lot of 970/980 gamers redeemed this title for free. The actual sales of Unity on the PC are garbage vs. console sales. Even Valkyria Chronicles sold more on Steam in the first week of release.
http://www.lazygamer.net/general-news/valkyria-chronicles-blows-away-the-competition/

Now barely 1 week after Unity came out, it's way way down on the Steam's top seller's list while older games like COD:AW are still up there.

Here is a snapshot of UK AC Unity sales:

"Assassin's Creed: Unity was the top debut this week on the UKIE GfK Chart-Track chart and reported by MCVUK for the week ending November 15. The game launched in second place with strong sales. First sales for the game were higher than last year's Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. 52 percent of sales for the game were on the PlayStation 4, 36 percent were on the Xbox One, while just two percent was on the PC."

Even if you think that Unity sold 10X more digital copies than reported, that sales performance is still pathetic given how many PC gamers there are out there and how few PS4/XB1 gamers own the new consoles < 25 million. Groover is right that Unity bombed on the PC.

I have a really difficult time thinking Ubi cares about how many copies of unity sell to PC. It's clear that's their opinion with the bugs, glitches, and unoptimization in PC versions. If you're looking at PC in isolation - yeah it bombed. Which surprised no one, not even Ubi themselves. I'm not trying to defend Ubi, just stating what is true. Also game is probably easier to play on console due to controls vs. kbm. I have PC version and play with a XB1 controller bc the keyboard controls are stupid. Lots of people probably choose to buy on console for this reason alone.

But console sales are still sales. and bundle sales are still sales. Saying they don't count because they're in a bundle is just irrational. Even with XB1 bundle sales, PS4 sales of Unity were far higher. I don't see the XB1 bundle as making a big impact here.

AMD released 14.11.2 today. no mention in the patch notes about any Unity fixes. This one seems targeted at DA:I. Anyone give it a try yet?

I've already addressed this with you several times, but you just can't seem to get it.. Using MSAA in this game has a massive performance hit for aforementioned reasons; namely the fact that the engine uses deferred rendering which uses a lot of bandwidth and resources. Adding MSAA, another resource hogger into the mix and the frame rate will plunge..

No current GPU can avoid this steep penalty.

I'll no doubt be getting the game. It just won't be at $60. More like $20 in a few months.

This. I have a 5930K @ 3.7GHz and I have never seen dips below 40FPS with settings maxed @ 1200p and FXAA. MSAA is outdated.

I played last night with the new beta driver from AMD. No significant performance change. I didn't have fraps running and didn't notice anything. Still isn't running as great as I'd like but it is playable. Some chop still, but less than at launch.

how are sales doing? 'cause that's what it comes down to ultimately. I bet they're doing just fine.

So far it's selling more than Black Flag, and Black Flag was a very successful game..

It looks like Ubisoft is trying to save face in light of this debut debacle. They've announced that the Dead Kings DLC will be free for all users. Also, if you've already purchased the Season Pass, you will now receive a free Ubisoft game. Your first thought is probably, "Oh, it's just some old junk...." You may want to take a look at the list:

  • The Crew
  • FarCry 4
  • Watch Dogs
  • Assassin's Creed Black Flag
  • Rayman Legends
  • Just Dance 2015
So, there's a little bit of older stuff (about a year old) in there, but you also get the far more recent games like FarCry 4. I actually bought the Season Pass because they offered a fairly hefty (I think 30%) discount if you bought it when you registered your game code (from the NVIDIA promo). I wasn't going to get it, but honestly... I liked the look of the 2D Assassin's Creed China game. (You still get that game as part of the season pass.) To note, the free game is not available as of writing. Ubisoft says that they're setting up the system for it.

They did the right thing. The game is a technical marvel, but it's loaded with tons of bugs. And it's not just PC, but all platforms.

A game should never be released in such a state; especially a high profile one like AC Unity. It's better for it to be delayed. I myself experienced a game breaking bug when I couldn't access the entire southern portion of the map without the game inexplicably freezing.

That bug was fixed in the second patch, but there is no way something like that could make it's way through QA and not be noticed.

Oh well, I still admire Ubisoft for making such an ambitious title. It's the first game to use this many cutting edge graphics technologies in a large open world setting, and hopefully won't be the last.
