Hello all,
I just purchased the XP3000 (4oomhz) cpu to put in an A7N8X-dx. For some reason, the highest that I can get the chip to post and remain stable is XP2800 (2.09 Ghz). The motherboard REV is 1.04 and the bios is 1.07 (the lastest).
On a side note, the multipliers in my bios only go up to 12.5 ... this doesn't seem right.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

BG

Thanks for the reply. I initially set it up @ 200 X 10.5 When it did finally boot. It would run for about 2 minutes before a crash and a reboot. The crashes usually begin with the display going corrupt.

The ram is: 2 X 512 Corsair 3200C and the timings are 2.5-3-3-8. ( I reduced the timings from 2-3-3-7 to no avail )

Try bios 1004 or 1006. Many folks think that 1004 is the best for getting high FSB, but, personally, the 1006 works best on my v1.04 board. Both are considered better than 1007. Also, try using only one stick of RAM to see if it will be stable and set the vdimm to 2.7V. If this and other suggestions fail, then I'd say that Asus owes you a board that supports 400MHz like thay claim it does.

The A7N8X can only manipulate four of the five bridges that control the multipliers. Therefore, only the lower or only the higher multipliers will work at one time. Good luck. Peace.

JS,

I tried your suggestion and went back to bios 1.06. After getting the machine to post and windows finally loaded, something quite interesting happened. " Windows has found new hardware - NVIDIA PCI memory controller. "
I rebooted, set the correct fsb & clock and it's running as smooth as silk. Thanks a million!!

most likely memory is the problem. I haven;t seen you mention what you have, but check out the memory first. I would guess the timings are wrong or it isn;t fast enough.

Edit missed the corsair at 2.5-3-3-8. Try 3-4-4-9 and if it works, you have your culprit.
