I'm looking to build a 1GHz system... what board do you guys recommend? Are there compatibility issues? What are something I need to consider?

If you jump on the bandwagon, get a MSIK7Tpro2a.

I got a KT7-RAID and love it. Bought the MSI for my momma. Heard good and bad things about A7V. Most of bad was compatability issues.

I have both of those and a MSI K7T Pro2-a in the house.
A7V, I have all kinds of problems with including blue screens and lock ups. This however was an early revision of the board.
KT7 Abit, Good board few issues.
K7T MSI, Good board, I was able to get an additional 60MHz from my cpu using it. No issues at all
including IRQ sharing.

Definelty go with the MSI K7T PR02-A board if you want the best SocketA board.

I went with a 1GHz Thunderbird and the Asus A7V. One primary consideration was the extra EIDE controller built in for ULTRA ATA-100 support.

No problems yet.

lol, the A7V is a better board then the Kt7.

IF you get a KT7 you have to put up with Abits Horrible RMA experiences, and it's a factor that you might since their RMA rate hit 9% after this board came out.
It's got a horrible drive controller..

The A7V is better, but the MSI K7T PRO2a is EVERY better.

If you had compatability probs with the A7V, you probably didn't know what you were doing.

I would wait for the either the KT133A chipset or the amd 760 chipset. It should be available anytime soon. BTW, I am very happy with the KT7-raid.

I have a A7V and a Duron 700 @ 1100 and it runs great
I would say the Asus A7V or MSI K7T pro2-a are the best

I have an a7v duron 600@969
My two sons both have the abits with durons @1000.
The abit bios settings are a little easier than the jumpers but I like the a7v but thats a personal choice. I would definitly consider the msi board now.

I have noticed problems with my 1 gig AMD CPU and the ASUS MB and am giving up on solving it!
I tried a new board and a new CPU and they just show the same signs of a problem
If I load a application, like media player and then shut it down the Kernal CPU load goes to 70% or so and stays there
Most any other program will trigger this too but the key is that it goes up when they are unloaded
I just can't sort it out

Can anyone test their AMD to seee if they get this same symptom.
Just load the system monitor
Load say, media player and then close it and watch what the CPU does
Does it go back idle or stay up ?
On Windows ME I was hitting 100% and it stayed there until I rebooted
And it was not a false peak, the thing was slow as glue. CPU was really under 100% stress
Windows 98 SE is not doing that with this hardware but it's still not 'right'
No one has found me a fix so it's abit and Pent III time for me I guess :/

Any others know what I can do and what's the best MB for a Pent III 1 gig ?Tiger

The MSI is a technically better board than both the Abit and the Asus, but if you want overclockability then go for the Abit.
MSI or Abit overall.
