Asus A7V133 Sucks!

I've had so many troubles installing this system and no support from Asus at all! Here is my lastest crap on this low end board:

When I put in the Windows 2000 O/S CD-ROM and it tries to install to my hard drives it states that I don't have any hard drives available to install on. Yet, I've partition and formated the drives already. I am using an Array (RAID 0)with my Asus A7V133 mobo- the array shows up just fine so I am confused.

Any takers on this problem board?

Sure, first off change the topic because this isnt even a MB problem... its Win2K/driver problem. Win2K doesnt come WITH Promise RAID drivers so it cant recognize the HD. You need to put the RAID drivers on a floppy disk, then when you start Win2K setup across the bottom it will say "Press F6 to install SCSI/RAID drivers" you press F6 and then in a minute or 2 it will ask you to add drivers... it will ask for a floppy disk with the drivers on it... put it in and everything will work ok.

You jump too quickly to conclusions... this is lack of knowledge (Im not insulting you) and has nothing to do with the MB.

yeah u need to load raid drivers at F6 prompt.. dont miss it, when u look away and miss it ur'll have to reboot again..

Come on Tab62.. your a .gov guy.. you mean to tell me in all of the GSA, there are no MCSE's to give you a hand loading Win2k? It really does require the mastery skill level of an MCSE to follow the directions on the screen.

It loaded the drivers just fine but still no luck on y2k recognizing the drives. Any other ideas?

Did you use the RAID drivers.... not the ATA100... If you go on the Asus CD it has a dir called Promise... then inside that there are 2 more dirs... ATA100 and Raid0

Make sure you copy the Raid0 folder over to floppy and not ATA100.

Yeah, i can't believe they dont just ask you... i mean sometime i reboot the machine and it's all scsi so it takes like forever and the second i look away, it's pass that F6 point... = reboot again..

You shouldnt need to... You should just need to install the RAID drivers.

Yeah, it totally sucks that the Win2k installation doesn't allow you to install drivers or at least to retry another attempt, if it doesn't see any HDDs!!! You get either a Quit option or that other option which says, &quot;You will lose all data on your startup drive....&quot; There should be the option to retry a driver load.

Do you have a floppy disk with the latest Promise Raid 100 Drivers on it? My A7V did no ship with these. I had to go to promise, download the Drivers, and extract them to a Floppy disk. Use this disk when asked for the 3rd party drivers.

my god... is it this complicated to install o/s on a brand new computer? i've reformatted hundreds of times and win98 on new computers but never win2k. is it this complicating? i'm sorta new to computer building crap (im planning to do it soon... i have taken apart a whole computer and put it together but never bought brand new parts)...

I just ordered the A7V133 today..
I thought it is the best KT133A board right now...
I was about to order the KK266 Mobo, but I changed my mind because it has the multiplier problem..

Does it have some problems like the Iwll KK266 and KT7A mobo? I'm kind of worry...

The A7V133 doesn't suck...obviously, this is tab62's first time installing Win2K on a RAID0 system and he/she doesn't like to use the search function.

In no way does this Board Suck!!! Maybe it sucks air to the processor.... People are bashing ASUS boards just to get attention. If anyone thinks this board sucks I'll buy it from you. I'm sure the reselling value of this board is pretti high on the for sale forum. After you sell me this board and you can always get a Abit or MSI board for much cheaper. hehehhe Abit = RMA = Tons of headache = unhappy camper.

Easiest way around this is to connect the HD to the non-ATA100 channels. Win2k can see those without extra drivers. Once the basic install is done, it'll detect the ATA100 promise chip, you install drivers then. Once that's done you can simply switch the IDE cable back to the ATA100 channel. The board is great, it'll be worth the effort.

You can't do that since this is a RAID0 setup. I found a fix in another forum.
To install Win2K on a RAID0 on the A7V133, you need to install both the Promise Lite RAID drivers as well as the Promise ATA100 drivers during setup.
I can't verify that it works for Win2K since I haven't done the install yet, but it does work for Whistler. I couldn't install Whistler until I found this fix today.

BTW, I didn't use the drivers off the ASUS site. I got newer ones from the Microstar site.

Get the Asus. It rocks. The only reason he put &quot;Asus A7V133 Sucks!&quot; is for the shock value. A thread titled &quot;Abit or MSI sucks!&quot; wouldn't surprise half the people who frequent the motherboard forum. But a &quot;Asus sucks&quot; thread stops anyone dead in their tracks. Isn't that enough proof?
