i'm using asus update V6.07.01 for windows, before flashing, go to options and activate "bios downgradable". works fine for me.

(with later versions of asus update i had problems flashing older bios)

Thanks e30, that did it! I was able to flash back to 1011 BIOS, which was more stable for me

Looks like ASUS remove the ability to flash to older BIOSes in the later revisions.

Anyone know if the ASUS A8N-SLI has a 1T bug like the A8N-E? IF it doesn't have a 1T how is the overclocking on the A8N-SLI for those who own one?

Is it true that this board doesn't like ClockGen?

Also what is the difference between all the different versions like Deluxe and Premium? Is it just extra SATA ports and firewire?

Im in the same boat, but I can't get my A8N-SLI deluxe to go passed 275 mhz FSB. No mattwer what I try, even lowering the CPU and HTT multipliers, and running memory with a divider and slow timings. It's actually prime stable at 275x9, but doesn't even boot at 280. I would strongly suggest going with the DFI Ultra-D. It's by far the best overclocking mobo. I also just got a opteron 165 DPMW and want to get it the 330x9.

Ok guys, been running 304x8.5 2600 1.5v and 289x9 2600 1.5v, when doing Isolation test, I reach 340 HTT, and 2650 max with multi @10x memory @1T always.
Other than my memory limit of around 210mhz ...what more could i ask from this board ? ...are your nth bridges running too hot? my Zalman feels only warm to the touch (removing the thin plastic surround from the N4 chip made alot of temp difference) If i was buying today i guess i would look at DFI, but seriously what benifit would it be to me in my current system

Just built mine. Had problems with SATA2 boot drive - resolved (I think) with BIOS flash. I will know more when I get everything up and running. I have an Opteron 165 on board.

Please do--I'd like to see your results.

With the 1013 BIOS I was unable to run my X1800XT at stock speeds without going into standby mode. Now that I've flashed back to 1011 (01/20/06) I can at least run my 1800 at stock speeds, though using overdrive still sends it into standby. It's just too much for my old Enermax Whisper 430W. I'm looking to soon replace it with an Enhance ENS-0560G 600W unit.

Any recommendation for chipset fan replacement. My CPU is running at 57c and chipset at around 70c at full load. I run Boinc 24/7 and it is rock solid but summer is coming and I'm afraid that it might start crashing or even burnout the Motherboard.

I've been going strong at 292. I don't think my 3000+ venice can handle going higher since I am only on air. From what I heard, it goes to 315 with propper cooling.

Yeah, I'm looking for a new one too. My chipset is just too hot, and I have good ventilation.

You guys can try any one of the following places.

http://www.coolerguys.com/
http://www.frozencpu.com/index.html?cid=prf
http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/

I'm considering the ThermalRight HR-05 Chipset Cooler but it'd have to fit with my 1800XT. My 3000 venice core can already easily clock to 2.6 with nothiiing but the retail hsf+ArtSilv5. I may add an Artic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro to push it to 2700+. But before all this I need to purchase & install my Ultra-D.

That does seem somewhat high... With room temp. at around 26-30c, my CPU rarely goes above 44c at load and is usually 33-36c idle. I had an old board (with old high rpm chipset fan) which just failed recently and got the new fan from Asus - it is larger, quieter and runs at 5,625/5,818 rpm. Chipset temp. now is usually at 38-40c all day, load or not.

Clean out your fans/heatsinks, I am sure you will get 5-8c drop in temps.

Edit: I do not overclock.

Why not???

J/K

1. Use my PC 80% work, 20% games/entertainment (wish it were other way around...)
2. I normally pass on my PCs, need it to last 3-5 years.
3. Current set-up quite adequate really - 3700+/6600gt
4. IMO 80% of problem posts around here are due to overclocking / modding, cannot really afford any downtime
5. Climate is anyway hot around here, no point in adding more heat...

Your post makes sense to me. I really was just messing around anyway. My brother doesn't overclock, either. Its more of a hobby, i think, than anything.

the manual says so, but v1005 of bios only allows 1.55v. i've heard rumours about 1004 and 1010 allowing 1.65v, is this true? wat is the max vcore for 1013?

Yes. Page 75 of the manual shows 1.65 volts as the highest available value.

unfortunately, the highest available Vcore in BIOS is 1.55V if a venice-core (90nm) is installed on the A8N-E.
1.65V can only be chosen on older A64 cores.

i've been googling, but could not find a single modded bios for this board.

another thing i miss on the A8N-E are further ram-dividers than DDR400, DDR333, DDR266.
DDR300 and DDR366 would be nice.

above DDR400, DDR 433, DRR466 and DDR500 can be set in 33mhz steps. but only above...

I guess it's obvious, but I have an A8N-E as well.

I'm trying to decide if I need to flash the BIOS. Asus' web site for some reason says that a 3800 X2 isn't compatible with BIOS revisions below 1006. I'm running 1005 and haven't really had any issues. I tried to search the thread, but "3800" didn't turn up much, so sorry if this one's been beaten to death. With that dire warning about file system corruption, I dunno if it's worth some fanciful performance increase. Any suggestions from those with a similar experience would be appreciated.

Also, I guess it turns out I had one of the larger fans--still sounds like a chainsaw, and I started get chipset fan warnings the other day. Is it worthwhile to get _another_ of those terrible fans from Asus, or should I just go with an aftermarket fan?

I went with a Zalman NB47J, and eventually screwed a low-RPM 40mm Panaflo on the side for a bit of completely silent airflow. I've had absolutely no stability issues whatsoever, though I don't overclock.

Even though I just got the new bigger fan and it is not very loud, I feel that something running all the time at 6k rpm is not going to last for more than a few months. I intend trying keeping similar chipset cooling solutions at hand so when the new fans also fails, I will simply change to the other cooling solution.

Why wouldn't u want to flash to the latest Bios? v.1013 here since it came out weeks ago....no issues to speak of.
About that chipset fan, remove ur MB, take that fan off, and throw it in the sea!! ..... then mount a Zalman NB47J, use a hairdryer to remove the peice of black whatever from around the NF4 chip, and a tiny amount of thermal compound to mount it. It will run cooler, and i bet u wont hear it
Do u overclock? ....2600MHz here
