Asus A8N-SLI + Driver issues

Okay. I have been running stable with the 6.82 drivers on my A8N-SLI Premium for a while now, with a 3500+. I decided to get an Opteron Dual core.

I was running the original bios, so I knew that I needed to upgrade to a newer bios. I went to the ASUS website, and it mentions that I will need to install 6.65 drivers or later. At the time, I didn't realize what drivers I had, so I just went to Nvidia's site, downloaded their latest drivers and that is where the problem started to occur.

The machine seems to be running fine except for opening windows/folders. Simply scrolling through a folder with 30+ items will cause that folder to become unresponsive for anywhere from 5-15 seconds and then it will come back.

My transfer speeds seem fine on my harddrives (Maxtor 300GB SATAII and WD 74GB Raptor), they are around 120 burst + 61 sustained.

From what I can tell it seems to be related to the SMBus. I was thinking it was the IDE driver, but I have the problem even when I don't install it.

I also ran Driver Cleaner and it did not help. Any suggestions? Really banging my head against the wall with this one.

edit: Also when the folder becomes unresponsive so does the rest of explorer. Other apps continue to run as normal however.

Have you installed the Microsoft and the AMD hotfix for dual core processors?

I installed the AMD dual core driver. However, I was having these problems with my 3500+ BEFORE I installed my Opteron 165.

Seems like I have this problem no matter what nForce drivers I install, including the 6.82's that worked before.

Crazy. Now it seems to be fine, yet nothing changed. In fact, I noticed it was fine after like an hour through running Prime95 on my new Opteron.

Flash, its a bug in the AMD64 architecture - or rather, a bug in windows 32bit. THeres no known fix for this as far as I know anyway.

Also, you'll see some weird program interactions. Like, emule causes your system to hang if its open, but if its minimized to shortcut bar, no problem. STEAM, if you use it, also causes the same problem.

Its just a bug as far as know that we just have to live with

If you find a solution though please PM me. Otherwise, yeah, its annoying.
