Okay. I have been running stable with the 6.82 drivers on my A8N-SLI Premium for a while now, with a 3500+. I decided to get an Opteron Dual core.
I was running the original bios, so I knew that I needed to upgrade to a newer bios. I went to the ASUS website, and it mentions that I will need to install 6.65 drivers or later. At the time, I didn't realize what drivers I had, so I just went to Nvidia's site, downloaded their latest drivers and that is where the problem started to occur.
The machine seems to be running fine except for opening windows/folders. Simply scrolling through a folder with 30+ items will cause that folder to become unresponsive for anywhere from 5-15 seconds and then it will come back.
My transfer speeds seem fine on my harddrives (Maxtor 300GB SATAII and WD 74GB Raptor), they are around 120 burst + 61 sustained.
From what I can tell it seems to be related to the SMBus. I was thinking it was the IDE driver, but I have the problem even when I don't install it.
I also ran Driver Cleaner and it did not help. Any suggestions? Really banging my head against the wall with this one.
edit: Also when the folder becomes unresponsive so does the rest of explorer. Other apps continue to run as normal however.
