I just bought the asus A8V deluxe and the AMD Athlon 4000+ cpu. After putting in all the drives and video card, i turned on the computer. The problem i am having is that it wont boot up off my hard drive. My hard drive is the same hard drive I was using in my old computer, it is an IDE 7200 rpm 40 gb drive. It will search for a drive then it says fast track not connected and bios is not installed. Will i be able to boot up this computer with my current hard drive or do I have to buy a new hard drive and start all over? Thanks for all the help.

Check the other posts on this mobo.

Initially I was told it was a hard drive problem, and after replacing the hard drive, the system worked long enough for me to build it. Then I connected a case fan and it won't boot anymore.

I have had nothing but problems with mine and ended up throwing it away since I could get no support from Asus or the vendor.

Now I have a 3800+ sitting around gathering dust.

Read your manual.

FastTrack is the Promise controller. If you don't have a drive on the Promise controller and you have not disabled the Promise contoller and you tried to install Windows without providing the Promise drivers, well then...

Disable everything in the BIOS that you're not using.

Ok, I disabeled the promise controller and it still wont launch to windows. Do I need to reformat my current hard drive and reinstall windows to be able to get it working or can I get it to work as is with windows already installed on it? Thanks again

Make sure your drive is not connected to the Promise controller(red connector). Connect it to one of the standard ATA133 channels (these are black and blue). You may need to boot into safe mode to install the VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers for your motherboard.

No version of Windows has your VIA drivers included. Yet, anyway.

Windows installs are not generally interchangeable between PCs simply by moving a hard drive from one to another. It can be done, with some effort, but you're past that stage. Try a repair installation from your Windows CD. You're going to need the mobo drivers on a floppy.

Read your manual.
