this for me, is probably the laptop i want. its the only reason i havent clicked "buy" on a 20inch imac.

its exactly what i want specs and size wise, exactly what i want, and who is gonna argue at the magnesium alloys and the carbon fibre? or the lamborghini paint job? not me.

they've let rip that it exists and that its coming soon..... but when!

last i heard this was gonna have DVI and VGA out, 2 gigs of ram, 2.33Ghz C2D, 160gig HDD, Geforce 7700 with 512mb, 1680x1050 res glossy 15.4inch screen

That looks very similar to the specs of a ASUS G1 apart from the GPU. I couldn't wait and i got the G1 myself for christmas its a great gamer for a 15.4 its a bit heavy but it only has the 7700 nvidia chip but i'm well pleased with all the games it can run CSS, Fear, WOW , oblivian. and it dose great on the battery life for a gaming laptop 2.5hrs avg when gaming

those are the specs of the G1 apart from the CPU speed Asus has it listed @ 2.00 ghz on the G1 but that will probably change as they step up to faster cpu's

they don't actually tell you when you should start seeing this laptop available but you could try asking the people over at ASUS for hint on when you might start to seeing them hitting the the retail market

a laptop with a Nvidia 8700 go chip looks like your looking for a real gaming oriented laptop just a word of caution you won't be gaming for long with that GPU it will require a lot of power. The battery life will be really short with that GPU.

If your main aspect is gaming remember this laptop only has a 15.4 (perfect for me ) student/gamer and the price was perfect for me choose something that fits all your needs are you going to be mobile alot then that might not be the best choice

I can't deny those spec look great in a laptop if your going to use it as a desktop replacement .. then that might be perfect for you but it will never fit the role as a road warrior

IIRC, the VX2 is going to be built on Santa Rosa (at least for its debut in the U.S.). For more information on the VX2, you should look at the Asus Forum on Notebookreview.com

i think whats gonna happen is this

its going to show up in europe in Q2 and it'll be spec'd much the same as that G1 laptop...only with the cool lambo touches

it'll show up later in america with better cpu and gpu and like you said built on the new platform. all that sounds nice, but honestly i think im just gonna buy when i have the money at the end of march and be happy.

i thought i wanted an imac, but i think its going to have be a laptop now...the fact i can take a machine thats set up to my liking with me where ever i go and work how i like with what i like really appeals. still the question is whether to get a vista based laptop or a OSX one
