Asus Mobos

According to the Asus website, it will, but I had a conversation with one of their technical support agents and it made me a bit nervous.

He said that the BIOs would need to be updated and this mobo doesn't support X2 out of the box. Has anyone had any experience installing an X2 on this mobo and how smoothly did this go?

They said while I was on the phone with them that I would need to actually send the mobo into to ASUS so they can update the BIOS...not exactly something I'm looking forward to doing.

Okay, now I'm *really* confused. I just called back and asked the same exact question to a different technical support agent, and they said I wouldn't need a BIOS update for either the premium or deluxe versions of this mobo. :-

OK, you DO NOT have to send your motherboard in to update the BIOS. Go to Asus' website where you can download a BIOS file. Usually you put it on a floppy disk and press a key during post to copy it to the necissary location. It varies by motherboard and requires very little user input.

my question is for a worst case scenario - what if the ops m/b doesn't have the x2 compatible bios, how would the m/b react to this x2? would it just say cpu not recognized and still let the op to boot via floppy? if that were the case then all is good, i have never had a m/b recognize a cpu because i usually am always 1 gen old, so this is new to me too.

Say's right on the box, now with X2 support or something like that, at least mine does. I've read elsewhere that it works fine.

The Premium shouldn't come without X2 support as the Premium didn't start shipping till just after the X2 was released. Even if it doesn't support the X2 out of the box, every single one should support .9 micron CPUs. It will detect it as a Single core CPU till you update the bios. Asus has a tool that will do this for you in windows.
