I just bought one of these boards and received a Slocket with it. Anyone know the fastest P3 Processor I can run in the Slocket and the board. I'm running a 233 P2 on the mobo right now. Thanks.
I'm running a Celeron 600mhz on a p2bf, and it is very smooth. The Asus P2 boards are great, hang onto it.The Celeron runs almost as smooth as my AMD 1200.Just check the Intel specs and adjust your voltage on the slocket accordingly.
As long as the slocket supports the coppermine cpu's you should be able to use up to the P3 1.1GHz (100fsb) core. Right now my old P2B system is using a P3-850.
The FAQ mentions that you must have a minimum PCB revision of '1.12' to accept the 1GHz PIII. The alternative is to use a 'FC-PGA processor and a Slotket with manual voltage adjustment'.
I suppose I'm asking, what is the fastest 100MHz FSB PIII that doesn't require me adjust the voltage?
It's worth every bit to get a slocket, assuming it's still not that hard to find one. The best one is generally still the asus S370-DL. I've got a revision 1.04 board as well on my older system and is using a coppermine PIII-850. All you have to do is raise the voltage on the slocket to 1.8V since that's the lowest a rev 1.04 board can go. It's only slightly higher than the 1.65-1.75V cpu default, helps with overclocking too.
