Hi everyone. Im the new n00b att this place and this is my first topic (it's my second one but i placed the same topic in motherboards but i think it would fit better in this category) =). Anyway...
Im about to buy a new mobo for my P4 1.6a processor but i dont know witch mobo to choose from. I've heard that P4B266 is a very good and stable mobo to OC but what is P4B266-"?" where "?" is a letter i.e "E" or "C"?

What does the letters stand for?
And is this a good mobo to overclock?

In my opinion the Asus P4B266 is an excellent motherboard for over clocking. I'm using a P4B266-C to run my Intel 1.6A which is overclocked to 2.24 GHz using the Intel retail heatsink and fan. Some of the newer model motherboards such as the SIS chips support the new 533 MHz processors while others have more memory settings for high FSB settings than the Asus P4B266. (i.e. On the Asus P4B266 you can only use the 3:4 memory setting up to 132 MHz FSB)

I'm not sure what the E stands for, but the C does not have the opional LAN chip or the on-board sound chip.

What do you mean by "support the new 533 MHz processors"? Do you mean they "officially" support a 133MHz FSB? Don't all modern 845 based mbs allow you to run a 133MHz FSB?

Do the P4B266-x's support PCI and AGP multipliers at 133mhz? 1:4 PCI and 1:2 agp?
Eg. at 133mhz bus will the pci run at 33mhz and the agp run at 66mhz or does it use 100mhz multipliers (1:3 PCI or 44.3@133bus & 2:3 AGP or 88ish@133bus)?

Shimmishim - I have a P4B266 with onboard audio (C-Media) but no lan. The code on the box is "P4B266/PA/WOL". Both audio and lan are optional on P4266 and P4266-C. I believe the differences are the P4B266 has 4 USB 2.0 ports and 2 USB 1.1 ports and the "C" model only has 4 USB 1.1 ports. The "E" model is the current top of the line and has everything the P4B266 has and also a raid controller. There may be more but this helps explain the price difference between the P4B266-C models (cheapest), the P4B266 (middle priced) and the P4B266-E models (most expensive).

The normal FSB of the newest CPUs introduced by Intel operate at a "Quad-pumped" 133 MHz FSB (533 MHz) rather than the "Quad-pumped" 100 MHz FSB (400MHz). Yes, all modern I845 chip motherboards allow you to run a 133 MHz FSB.

but not officially. intel wants you to go buy the i845E chipset for "official support" (more $$$ to them i guess )
