FSB
= 100 thru 400fsb
Mem ratios = none
Vcore = 1.5v thru 1.975v
Vdimm = 2.5v, 2.6v, 2.7v
Vagp = 1.5v, 1.6v, 1.7v
AGP/PCI Lock = Auto, 66.6/33.3 thru 104.4/52.2
CAS = nonfunctional when overclocked
Idle Timer = Infinite, 16T
Turbo = Auto, Enabled, Disabled

want adjustable cas settings while overclocking? X-bios

BUGS
* CAS = none when OCed
, but at least there is an easy workaround
* AGP/PCI Lock = Auto does not use a 1/5 pci divider when overclocking ~ beware
* AGP/PCI Lock = 75/37 caused a hardware error
* AGP Aperture = 256 caused a hardware error
* keyboard power does not turn off with system (ie: Num Lock LED still lit)

P4m 1.7 review starts here

the board is installed and loaded. no drama there, easy as can be.
my only complaint is the IDE arrangement :disgust:
fan headers are in slightly odd locations and may require a bit of thought and rewiring.

the p4m/alpha hsf mounted easily and has very good contact.
i used dimm slots 3 & 4 since they are farther away from the cpu. slots 1 & 2 are a bit too close for comfort, ill see if that makes any diff later.

i mounted a 40mm fan on the northbridge heatsink (the NB HS is 50mm on this board) and i mounted a HS on the southbridge since my last board (p4b533) showed some heat from that chip @ 200+fsb.
...and as usual i am using ALL 3 power plugs on the board.

SATA testing will have to wait til i get some SATA convertors.

benchmarks and remarks will be posted as they come in....

Thugs:

Welcome to the GB world. Most interested in your numbers and would like your comments on the vcore stability as you increase FSB. The Gigabyte 8INXP is the one to beat as far as voltage stability. Aopen is pretty good but not as good as the Giggy.

Gigabyte GB board overvolted a bit. Probably not as bad as this Asus will. THugs, what are the overvoltages on this board? Real or not, still interested in finding out.

Erikaeanlogic did a great job on his overclocking thread ~ no point in repeating the same old same old.
so i figured id do more of a motherboard review using a p4m to max it out. plus with 800fsb right around the corner, this would be more appropriate.

@ 133fsb

idle
room temp = 27*C
cpu temp = 42*C
board temp = 32*C
default voltage is 1.575v which equals 1.63v idle in windows (pcprobe)

prime95
cpu temp = 49*C (looks like Asus finally fixed their temps?)
board temp = 32*C
vcore = 1.584v

12v = 11.9v
5v = 4.972v
3.3v = 3.28v

hmmmm,
bios readings do not match pcprobe readings.....

idle temp bios = 32*C
pcprobe = 42*C

idle vcore bios = 1.575v
pcprobe (and cpu-z) = 1.63v

Thugs,
See you finally landed a GB.
My Aopen Ax4r Plus was just shipped by Newegg. Lets see what it and my 1.8a c1 can do.

wow... quite the dif in temps! is that normal to have the bios read so much dif than a probe ( which i would trust more anyway... )

not too sure who to trust yet~

all software is reporting the same voltages / temps. (sandra cpu-z pcprobe)
ill keep an eye on this subject, but it may just end being a curiosity and not an actual problem.

we (or at least i) have yet to trust any readings on any board with any software on p4 systems :disgust:

yep, you can read all about it in my thread, lol (j/k)

the Hardware Monitor screen in the bios seems to accurately display the voltages and fan speeds (including their real-time fluctuations) but the Vcore seems to stay fixed at whatever value you set in the bios; fishy, eh?

yep vcore looks to be a fake reading in bios.

1600mhz 133fsb 267ddr results have been posted.

scores are amazing concidering its only 1600mhz :Q

* please note that im using the det 30 drivers and not det 40.
which means my 3dm2k1 scores will be 1300-1400 marks lower and UT flyby will be 14-15fps lower.
all other scores would remain roughly the same.

166fsb is up next...
