Thugs what did the 2.26b top out on your p4b533 mobo??? I think you should add a percentage column on you\r numebr to show increase in performance over the "i845e" chipset....That way we can see when the memory bandwidth is really helping...

the 2.26b tops out @ 167fsb on decent voltage.

once i post the cas2225 results there will be no need for a % comparison
some programs could actually care less about the bandwidth, but the ones that do like it really take off
and thats really all there is to it.

Yes, he was just hoping to break 2000. But your 1.7m was over 2400! That is crazy!!!

Thugs - nice work, that is awesome! I know you're busy playing with your new board, but I'm hoping you can answer a question for a newb. I've never OC'ed before, but I bought this board and put a P4 2.4 on it last week. Since I wasn't planning on OC'ing it, I just bought some Crucial PC2100 RAM. But after reading some people's posts on here about how good the board was, I thought I'd try some mild OC'ing. So I just bumped the fsb to 150. Since Monday, it's been stable and had no problems. According to asusprobe, the cpu temp at idle is 44 and at load ~55. I'm using the stock heatsink and fan, and only have 2 case fans total, and I have a 480W ps. So my question is, am I running too hot, and is it safe to do this with stock everything? If so, how far should I try pushing my system? Thanks for any tips you got, sounds like you're the master!

DITTO Ruhnie!!
Good question. I plan on being in your situation once I purchase the P4G8X at the end of Feb. (funds, rather, the lack there of,.... :disgust: I'd like to dabble a little in the oc'ing world too but I never have - I share the same concern with "stock everything".

Your temps are within limits, but they are pretty high...you can probably improve that just by improving your case cooling. Are using the thermal pad under the heatsink? If so, a thermal compound will help also. After the cheap fixes are the expensive ones...like a new heatsink

It's safe to oc with stock cooling, but I'd try to improve it if you're going to leave it there, at least try to get the cpu temp down in the 30's...

IMHO:
you can use the stock cooler w/o fear if....
you dont use its thermal pad~
you dont add any vcore~
have decent case cooling~

the p4g8x has a temp reading bug ~ its about 8-9*C high

Yeah I thought about yanking that thermal pad off and using some arctic silver, but it was so big I knew it would be a pain in the ass to get the heatsink really clean. I forgot to mention that I am actually only running one case fan right now. My last mobo had 4 fan connectors, this one only has 3, so I gotta get some kind of adapter for a 3-pin to 4-pin connection. Hopefully that one more fan will help a bit. Thanks for the tip!

Ok so I guess the consensus is to get rid of that infernal thermal pad! Done! Thanks Thugs!

Ruhnie, your temps of 44C/55C are fine for 2.7 GHz. Some ASII/ASIII should lower it a bit. If the board reads 3 - 4 C high, you are right where I would think you would be. The thermal pad is very easy to remove (when new). It's on a piece of foil. Just peel the foil off and clean up what is left over. Not sure how it is to remove once it has been cooked on.

Nice to see that the cold boot issue is not there! What is with Asus and ram timings? The P4B266 and even the xUSL2 boards had this sort of thing. At least you have a way around it.

So the question is...167 FSB fastest config on the P4B533 Vs P4G8X with the tweaked mem timings. Who wins and by how much? Asking for one last comparison.

This is the question people need answerd (I do anyway). How much faster is the GB compared to a well set up 845/D/E/G/PE when run @ the same FSB/CPU speed?

Thnx!

oh at this point the p4g8x wins in all areas.
the i845pe lands about half way between i845e and e7205. (because of its 4:5 ratio)
(....were talking overclocked here)

im still attempting to download 3dm3k3~
ill get the rest of the benchmarks completed once ive got it.
i know you guys overclocking to 150fsb wanna see the cas2225 results NOW!

theyll be done asap for yas
