Asus P4PE: Disabling Audio

I recently bought a Asus P4PE with all the options.

The sound card is great except that it only has three audio out ports which are all used in 5.1 speaker setup. My WinFast TV 2000 XP needs an audio in port. Therefore, I cannot run 5.1 and the TV card at the same time.

I own a phillips accoustic edge which has all the ports out and audio in. I installed it and my computer freaked out. I tried unistalling the onboard drivers or disabling them but could not get the computer to stay on in Windows XP for more than a minute without restarting itself.

I know there are a few people out there with an Asus P4PE who a PCI sound card. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to disable something else on the onboard sound? Should you just be able to install the second sound card and have it work?

You need to disable it in the bios. You shouldn't have any problems after that.

In BIOS, I/O Device Config, you should try disabling the on-board AC97 Audio Controller. The default setting is AUTO.

It seems to be working now. I disabled the sound in the BIOS before but not until after I installed the new sound card. I guess you just have to do everything in the right order.

You got it! Disable first - reboot, then install the new. Otherwise you can have collisions and conflicts as they both try to use the same resources.

I was forced to put a sound card in my P4PE - the on-board flakes out after 150 MHz FSB (running @ 163 here), so i've had to put a Live! in there

Not bad, seeing as there was an Audigy in there....which i swapped into my PC
