asus p5k3 deluxe

hi all

a friend wanna build a brand new system, i recommanded the new asus p5k3 deluxe for new chipset and features, but i don't know if this card is stable and solid as the P965 and P975x generation.
is it compatible with DDR2 modules and does it have some issues with memory brands compatibiliy? if so what kinda ram and brand do you suggest

P5K3 requires DDR3,

P5K requires DDR2, I do not know about memory issues yet. I will be getting my P5K deluxe next week and will use G.Skill DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 memory. hope it works

P5K3 does not 'require' DDR3. It has two DDR2 slots and two DDR3 slots, both pairs of which cannot be used simultaneously.

The boards are very stable at this point. Quite surprising actually to be honest. However, after having a few extra days with boards now -

ASUS P5K-D/P5K3-D:
1. Still experiencing some warm reboot issues with the Quad cores, the latest 0411 BIOS for the P5K3 has resolved most of the reboot issues but it still occurs. Expecting another BIOS update for the P5K to address it shortly. If you do not set the BIOS up correctly when Transaction Booster enabled, it will not POST. I will have settings available here shortly.
2. Strap changes are all over the map right now, not like the P965 boards where you basically had them around 320 and 400, depends on the BIOS, board, and CPU now. Once again, will have settings shortly once we have the "launch" release BIOS spins.
3. Audio is improved, additional filters and circuitry were done on the board, not perfect yet but I just received new drivers from ADI to address some static at overclocked settings.
4. Memory compatibility is very good so far across a wide range of modules, 4GB overclocking is within a few percent of 2GB clocking. I have noticed the need to run voltages a little higher than the P965 boards but timings are also better. The 4-4-4 timings at 1066+ will allow you to really tighten up the memory sub-timings when compared to 4-4-3.

P5K3 is all DDR3, you cannot use DDR2 on it.

Yep - all one has to do is download the P5K3 manual from ASUS to confirm that.

Anyone have any idea when Kingston's HyperX DDR3 memory is going to hit? I'd like to grab that as it's low latency, I'm pretty well set on doing a P5K3 system.

I have the P5K3 Deluxe WIFI AP. This board does have a few set-backs:
1) P35 shipset does not recognize any RAID array larger than 2TB no matter what controller you use.
2) JMICRON controller controls the 2 eSATA ports as well as the eide port (meaning if u set this controller to RAID then your eide will also be in RAID and therefore an optical drive will not be recognized by the eide port)
3) Installing 2 SATA optical drives does not work on the intel controller, while set to RAID. So let's say that you want to have your OS on a RAID-0 array and also have 2 SATA DVD burners, this will not work.
4) If you want a true Crossfire mobo, do not gt this one. It has only one 16x PCI-E slot while the other 16x sized slot is actually 4x.
