That's incredible. I'm not ready to part with $400 for a mobo or $600 for a video card for that matter!

Well, my gaming went down the crapper 6 months ago or so when I bought the Dell 30" monitor, I love the thing, but underestimated by a great deal what it was going to take to game at that resolution. I saw the answer to my problem linked elsewhere by a forum member Here . I had the 7800GTX when I bought the monitor, and uprgraded shortly after to the 7900GTX, it still sucks for gaming. I liked the board every since I saw it, and I've been looking literally hour by hour at Newegg daily for it to come in stock. I just pulled the trigger on it and a X6800 Conroe, along with 2 EVGA 8800GTX's. I know my wife is going to kick my #@% all the way out to the doghouse where I'll be spending my Christmas holidays, but me and rover get to game again....woooot !

The Asus P5N32-E 680i is basically the same board minus the LCD display and e-SATA ports.

I just got off the phone with a representative from xpcgear.com, which is where I have my preorder for the striker. He said that Asus manufactured a bunch of duds in the beginning, and are trying to fix the problem plus handle tons of returns. He also said that every striker they have sold has been returned because they do not work. Eep! I hope Asus gets its act together because I need a motherboard.

I honestly don't understand why this board is so highly sought after.

Bling factor?

Well that is very reassuring. lol.

This must also mean the p5n32-e sli is prolly also baked since everyone says they are basically the same minus the bling factor.

Well, there's no proof the P5N32-E SLI has the same problems but I suppose it could be possible. Right now I'm more inclined to read what users are saying than reviews. Also show me a review (professional or otherwise) between the eVGA 680i and the Striker Extreme where the eVGA clearly beats the Striker Extreme. To date I havent seen such a match up review but I wouldnt mind reading one.

I asked the sales rep if the p5n32-e sli had the same problems, and he said none have been returned yet.

I bought a Striker, and so far it has performed well. Although I have found the FSB holes that everyone has mentioned about the 680i boards.

My only complaint, other than the less than friendly slot layout, is the LCD poster flashing randomly when Probe II is running.

My Striker board should arrive either today or tomorrow. I seriously hope it's not DOA. I've waited too long already for this machine.

unfortunately my heart is set on the motherboard but I will have to wait a couple more weeks in hopes that the price drops. Im wondering if the price will be dropping on the C2D 6700 soon as well.

My striker is up and running, so far no issues.

Doing better than my eVGA mobo which I think needs to be RMA'ed as it gives memtest86+ errors while the same ram in the striker (at same "stock" timings/speed) does not.

Considering all that I have read so far right now if I had to choose between the 680i reference mobos, The Striker, and the P5N32 E SLI, I think I would go with the P5N32-E SLI. Its cheaper than the Striker, Overclocks just as well, doesnt seem to have the same exact problems (although it does have some like all the 680i mobos do) and its probably a tad better than the 680i refrerence mobos. I think the 680i refernce mobos are as good as they are going to get in this incarnation/revision but the two ASUS mobos I feel have a lot more potential left in them. Mainly because I feel ASUS will do alot more BIOS updates. Even if the Striker is perfect and had no problems its priced too high IMHO. Besides I dont need the extra features so why get it? Get the less featured version and still have the performance goodness. This is just my own personal opinion at this point in time.

It seems that the 18th is the day that SE's will be available again. I tend to agree that they has some issues with the first release and that this release will not be out there until those issues are fixed.
Amyway, I am waiting until I see what those that get some of this new batch say.
I have a meeting with ASUS at CES, it is on a different topic but I will for sure ask about the S E.
