So chatting with Asus Tech support when I typed something however I retracted it because I felt like it did not add to the conversation. What do you know, the agent asks me about what I had typed. Apparently they can see everything you are typing even before you hit enter!

I find this a huge breach of privacy. What do you guys think?

Oh this is just the tip of the iceberg, my friend. Hope you have HTML in your email turned off...start reading up on how places like Salesforce place a 1x1 image into your email and can do all kinds of crazy tracking on you. If you think the NSA is hiding on your hard drive, you should see what the marketers & advertisers are doing haha. Gets even more fun if you go somewhere IRL, read some of my replies here:

I think the problem is that you think "Enter" means "Send this to Asus for them to read." In fact, "enter" means, "Hey Asus tech, I'm done with this line and am awaiting your response."

Your naivety doesn't equal a security breach.

Looks like Asus isn't the only ones doing this. Schwab is doing it to boost their bottom line.

During the application process you can create a Schwab.com ID and access your new account online. Your personal information will be saved as you enter it in the application form and will be used for marketing. Please review our Privacy Notice before continuing.
So they don't even want to take the chance that you might decide to leave partway through, and take your profitable data with you.

If you are a new customer, we can begin sharing your information 30 days from the date we sent this notice. When you are no longer our customer, we continue to share your information as described in this notice. However, you can contact us at any time to limit our sharing.
I'd very much prefer to see this information be opt-IN.
I guess the dream is for everyone to be a Nielsen Family, for everything.

Some internet browsers have incorporated "Do Not Track" features. Most of these features, when turned on, send a signal or preference (the "DNT Signal") to the web sites you visit indicating that you do not wish to be tracked. Because there is not yet a common understanding of how to interpret DNT Signals, nor a common definition of "tracking", and because, as described below in "Online Advertising," we do not engage in so-called "retargeting" on third-party websites, we do not currently respond to DNT Signals on the Schwab Websites.
"We haven't been told exactly what "do not track" means, so we're not even going to try. There's too much sweet advertising money to be made."

Because you fucking typed it. On their website. Using their servers. With the intent to share it with a tech support representative.

Newsflash: Call centers can hear you while you're on hold too. Make a thread about that one.

LOL! Yep, that's the bottom line.

How can you possibly claim an expectation of privacy in a one on one chat?
